Some of you know of my Grandparents..and I just found out something cool |
|
They're getting power chairs!! They are also coring out the back ends of the duplex on both sides so they can roll around in the garden. They are also getting a van! Isn't that cool? They are already looking very excited about it. This house is 110-years old and it's about the WORST place to be if you are disabled. So there is a lot of work to be done!!!
My Grandfather is 88 and my Grandmother is 83.

2. Those can be a great help but |
|
as I tell the senior folks I train to use them where I work: "The more you rely on that chair, the more you will have to rely on it." Encourage them, if they are able, to still walk when possible and save the chairs for the longer distances.

Many elderly adults don't think far enough ahead to realize that they need to keep the strength in their legs and use these chairs and scooters so much more than they should. Once that happens, and they lose all strength in their legs and the ability to walk, they end up in 24 hour care in a nursing home because they can no longer even take themselves to the bathroom. They totally lose their independence sooner than is necessary from relying on those machines too heavily.
I wish your grans well. I'm very jealous because I wish I still had mine. I know you cherish them and care for them deeply. You're a good guy, Roon.

The last thing they want to do is going into a nursing/assisted living enviroment,so that is the reason they are putting up so much money to configure the house.I think they are getting the chairs from medicare.
They're excited, I'm excited. It's going to be great!
I will tell them what you told me. My Grandfather will probably use the walker when he is in the house, but if he wants to venture outside, he can just hop the chair and go!!
My Grandmother keeps losing toes to diabetes,I don't know how that is going to workout..Good I hope!!

3. My husband was just listening to the Beach boys |
|
so I'd put "Go, Granny, Go!" on here to celebrate, but the song would have to include Grandpa, too! I think that's wonderful that your grandparents want to stay in motion as long as they can.

12. So cool that they're finding a way to stay in their house. |
|
It's great when people can stay in their own places even when age or disabilities provide challenges.
