1. I don't practice any more,
but I still keep my Bar membership up to date, just "Inactive."

Does that count?

2. Sure!
Come to think of it, I don't know why I even specified "current job."

If your membership is up to date, what would you need to do to resume your practice?

5. Send the Bar Association a check
for the difference between dues for "Inactive" and dues for "Active." They'd send me a new Bar card. That would be it.

But, then, I'd be obligated to attend a certain number of Continuing Legal Education seminars in the coming year, and, really, I don't want to do that. And, if I don't do that, my membership could be revoked, or, at the very least, downscaled back to "Inactive."

There are a lot of things about which I'm casual, but paying my annual Bar dues is the one thing about which I am compulsive.........

14. I was out of the country for almost 8 years
When I came back, all I need to do was pay my back dues and take 14.1 CLE hours to catch up.

I was amazed, quite frankly.

In Virginia, if you miss paying your dues, you'll be removed from the ranks within a year.

Eight years? That is truly amazing.......................

21. Georgia
Granted, I had $3500 in back dues to pay...but big deal.

I couldn't believe the CLE requirement. I thought I'd have to sit for months, and instead, I basically handled it with 2 seminars and one online presentation.

Baffling.

15. I'm in the same boat.
Went into another line of work (that requires a different license), didn't have the time, money or inclination to attend incredibly tedious CLE courses (which would also mean having to use my vacation time to do so), and went to voluntary inactive status. But I still have to send them a check every year.

20. I haven't practiced law for a few years now, but I still keep my licenses active.
One state requires 30 hours of CLE every three years. The last three year cycle I discovered the joys of online CLE. My clock resets later this year, and I'll do it again. Much less aggravation and annoyance than finding, and attending, 30 hours worth of seminars.

The other state of licensure does not have any sort of CLE requirement. I pay them gladly, each and every year.

46. IOW, the standard pre-9/11 "fresh out of driver school" CDL
Have you seen the "X" endorsement at least some states have? It's a combination of Hazmat and Tanker because someone finally figured out a tanker endorsement is nearly useless without a hazmat endorsement.

51. I have the X endorsement
And there is nothing pre-9/11 about my CDL. I had to do the background check, fingerprint, and proof of citizenship thing. I had to renew it last year. I've been a trucker for 12.5 years. That hazmat endorsement is only good for 4 years here in Ohio. Then you have to re-certify.

I had my massage therapy license in Florida. I have to decide by August if I want to pay the fees to reactivate it (about $400) or it will go null and void, because I didnt renew it in 2007. I think once I get back to the Gulf Coast I will probably want to practice again, so I will probably cough up the money.

24. Greetings, Heidi:
In re: your latest work as submitted in BA-MD Painting Plan No 234-9865.

It is the considered opinion of the review committee of the Bureau of Aesthetics, Multimedia Directorate (BA-MD), that the pigment proposed for painting coordinates A30/J19 of the above-referenced work would resonate more favorably with the majority of your target demographic (op cit, pp 23-25) if it were changed to a red more closely aligned with Pantone values PMS 180 or 1805. It is up to the discretion of you, the artist, as to which one of these you will ultimately employ.

Best of luck in your endeavor and we look forward to your 3Q 2009 Progress Report, due 15 October 2009.

Sincerely,

Bueau of Aesthetics,
Multimedia Directorate

These young whippersnappers!

Which license(s) do you have, if you don't mind saying? When I was in financial services, I had to have a 6, and if I'd stayed in the position I'd have needed a 63. Not the 7, though.

I don't have any of the other ones that are so prevalent now--24, 66, etc.
