3. Watches are one of the things I left behind when I stopped working in newsrooms.
Deadlines and acute awareness of time were beaten into me since I was 16 and had my first newspaper job -- to a point that even after I gave up watches and thought I was liberated, I still feel very often that time is chasing me. As a result, I don't want or need a watch to remind me. :yoiks:

So, no. I don't wear a watch.

17. I've worn one everyday since I was 7
My dad bought me a watch with a red band that had a clear back so I could see how it worked...very cool. It was also the same day that my adoption was finalized so I've always been big watch fan. Wish I still had that one thinking back. But I ruined it by getting it wet. My current one I've had for 10 years, waterproof and self winding so I don't need to do a thing but wear it. :D

6. no!
I have never asked for anything for my birthday......until..
When I turned 39 I asked for a Mickey Mouse watch so I could enjoy the last year of my youth.
Some sort of weird thing I had going on back then:o
Only for that one year....and from then on, I've remained timeless.

peace~

Have refused to wear them since I was a young girl.
Refused the diamond engagement ring because of that...good thing...

Mostly I wear a gold 1970 Pulsar electric day/date.

I have my dad's old Buluva from 1958. He wore it for probably about 30 years until it stopped working. I had it rebuilt about 10 years ago and it's in great shape. It's by no means worth much, but I like to wear it as a dress watch. My daily wear watch is the Rolex I've had for almost 30 years.

I have two other watches that have been in my family for over 100 years. Both are Elgin watches. One is a ladies wristwatch and the other is a key wind pocket watch.

56. I had 3 very old elgin pocket watches. The one I gave to my brother
was from 1900 and was a large silver watch with a hand painted dial. I have a smaller hunting case Elgin I am going to get a new crystal for and give to my sister. I have one I got as a gift from my wife that needs a new jewel bearing.
I also have a 1970 Omega electro-mechanical that was my father in laws and needs a repair, but I haven't found anyone locally who has parts and I don't want to spend the big money on it to send it out.

58. You might check with this place
http://www.watchesetc.com/

They have a lot of Omega stuff and the owner bought the parts inventory of a lot of watchmakers that have went out of business over the last 30 years or so. They may be able to sell you the parts you need, or you can always ship it to them for repair. I've used them for a lot of watch work over the past 15 years or so.

What's the big deal about not owning a watch?

You can get a cheapo watch that tells time just as well as a fancy Swiss jobbie for $15 at the drugstore.

30. If I can get away from time at any point in the day, I do it
The last time I had a watch on my wrist would probably be in 5th, maybe 6th grade, and there was a clock on the wall in every room already.

At work, there is the clock on the screens, a clock on the walls, a clock on the phones. At home, a clock on another few screens(tv and computer), and yet another clock with a friendly noise to wake your ass up in the morning.

Then there are the clocks in the cars, and on all the other various electronic gadgets. Then you'll see the clocks on outdoor signs in front of banks, gas stations, convenience stores, etc. Then you'll see clocks inside of those same places of business.

Clearly one of the worst inventions of all time.

I was around 30 when that happened. Prior, I had no problems wearing one. I have two, one that is the old fashion wind it up type and one that is supposed to wind through movement. The latter doesn't work so well. I'm too lazy to wind the other.

34. My dear Tuesday Afternoon!
Yes, I do...

I had to, as a nurse, but I've always loved wearing them...

The one I've had forever, my husband bought for me when I was in nursing school, many eons ago...

It only needs an occasional battery, and a new band. It has run perfectly all these decades!

It has the date too, because I never know what the date is...

It is one of my most treasured things!

Many of my daily events are highly scheduled-- like classes, and meetings-- but I don't have ANY problem arriving on time without a watch.

60. Can't imagine not wearing a watch.
The only time I don't have a watch on is when I am painting or doing some other dirty type home repair job.

Now that I think of it, I've had the same watch for 16 years. It's a Tiffany & Co. watch that I bought with the fabulous employee discount when I worked there. Even with the discount it was a bit of a splurge. Before then I had always worn cheapo watches and it seemed like I killed them like crazy. Someone recommended I would have better luck with a good watch. So I bought it and I haven't killed it yet. It was definitely worth it.

It's more of a fashion accessory - kind of pointless really since by a force of habit I check my phone for the time. Oh well I suppose if my phone's battery dies I can check the time, but I usually just keep it charged so that's unlikely.

Edited on Mon Jul-13-09 11:53 PM by TreasonousBastard
maybe some of them have a phone with the time, but most of them are simply arrogant little twits who have decided time is now meaningless for them.

Of course, the two or three times a day when they decide they really do have to be somewhere, they find people like me to ask what time it is, and that is when I have to suppress my urge to dismember them.

(I did once go through the whole nonsense of poking a stick in the ground, estimating true North, and creating a sundial for one particuarly obnoxious timeless geek.)

75. Simple Timex, leather band. Could not do without it. I have
several windup watches but this one, battery operated, is about 12 years old and it just keeps on ticking.

76. Nope - I have three, but
I also have two laptops, one iMac, my PC at work, a cell phone, a microwave oven, a DVD player with a clock, and the menu from the cable listings, so I really don't see the point. :P The last time I wore a watch, I was late for stuff all day.
