How long should someone be a DUer before they can start longing for the "Old DU"?

I've been here for since Feb. '04, and I by no means consider myself an old timer. But, I just saw some guy in GD that joined in very late '07 longing for the old DU when it "underground" and before it became "mainstream". Doesn't that seem a little new to be longing for the "old days"?

1. I don't think there should be a time limit.

Setting a minimum time on that kind of thing fails to acknowledge that things change, and sometimes rather quickly. I've seen no fewer than four rounds of 'the Lounge was so much better when...' choruses around here, and I didn't even visit the Lounge when I first started on DU.

2. Back when I had to walk barefoot, in the snow, uphill all the way

just to be able to sign on to the internet, to be able to post to DU in the "good old days" we considered the folks who signed on when DU began as the wise senior members (with senior moments) as the ones who had reason to long for the "good old days".

or something in 02, lurked a lot, but never signed up because all i was using was hotmail, and i think they didn't allow people to join using web-based email addresses.

i was just to lazy to follow up until 04.

I know, my profile says 11/12/04, but that's the date of my current
username. Original username was trucker4kerry. Obvious reason to
change it. Anyhoozle, DU was pretty much the same then. Flamewars
were even more brutal than now. I do regret that I missed DU's
launch in '01. I kinda stumbled onto DU in late 03 and lurked.

Back in the 1970s: that was the real DU. Course, it was all vacuum tubes and coal back then, and the ASCII art of kittens sucked pretty bad, but there was a real sense of community.
