except just for skateboarding.
I bought them for my kids because they were the only shoes that lasted more than a month without getting torn up.
Problem is - skateboarding shoes have ZIP for arch support (or ankles either for that matter).
They are really really bad for young developing feet.
As are high heels for girls and flat flat flat slippers, sandals, flip-flops.

The person above was talking about ankle support, mid-cuts are good for that, I stopped wearing low-cuts ages ago partly for that reason.
