How old do you want to live to?
At what age would feel you have lived a full life?

1. I'm 70 now and have pretty much lived a full life,
but I really would like to stick around for about another 20 years. Maybe I will. Don't have any serious health problems and feel a lot younger than my age. And I still work at a full-time job.

23. Immortality is a bit much, but I could seriously deal with a few thousand years.
Edited on Wed Jul-15-09 12:55 PM by Xithras
Mostly because I could get launched into space and explore the stars if I lived that long. A 50 year trip to the nearest terrestrial planet doesn't sound so bad if you'll live to the ripe old age of 8,000.

Forever is a bit much though. I don't think I really want to be here when the Earth finally dries out and dies, or when the last stars wink out. Besides, true immortality is impossible. Eventually the universe will drift apart to the point where you will be unable to find enough material to keep rebuilding lost mass. Once that happens, you'll slowly start to disintegrate over many millenia as your body loses atoms and can't replace them. A rather crappy way to end your existence IMHO.

3. I will be 62 in 3 weeks. I survived several heart attacks, heart surgery and
other ailments, and I'm actually happier at this time of my life than I have ever been. I feel like I'm just getting things right, doing what I want and don't want to check out for some time.
My dad is 92, and I want to outlive him.

"Come on, people
Let's have some fun
You only live once
And when you're dead
You're done....

So let the good times roll...."

4. My mother died at 52
way to young ! My father is 74 and in terrific health. He is one of the younger siblings out of seven and only one of them is gone.

I hope I got my fathers genes, but everyone says I look just like my mother. I dont know if which parent I look like matters as far as the health genes go. I have never been sick. I would really like to make it to 70 or more.

5. However long I can stay healthy in mind and body
I want to be what the Japanese call "pinpin korori," an old person who is healthy and vigorous until they either keel over suddenly or go into a steep decline and die within a month or two.

Of course, nothing is certain, but I've observed that the people who accomplish this stay active: exercising (walking instead of driving whenever possible, for example), volunteering, being social, learning new things.

18. Maybe 90 or so -- But only if I'm relatively healthy and have my marbles.
If I have serious mobility issues and/or mental problems, I'd rather go at whatever age that hits. To me quality of life is what counts more than quantity.

19. It isn't a matter of age as much as it is
quality of life. I want to live only up until the day that I can no longer potty by myself. Period.

I work in a facility that has a nursing home and I do not want to live in one no matter how good and kind the care is. Once I can't do what I want, when I want or feel the need, I'm checkin' out.

20. As long as I'm of able mind and body into the upper 80's and beyond.
Not unusual in my family at all.

As a side note I've always wondered if the reason fundies talk about judgement day being upon is that they don't want to go through the process of death? They want to come home from work, have a nice supper, then walk right into the hearafter; no pain, no blood.

25. I had one psychic tell me I was going to live to 93
and another one say I'll live to be "very old." I took some life expectancy test that AC360 was talking about a couple of months ago and it said I would live to 94 -- or longer if I clean up some of my bad habits -- and that I won't even have any health problems until 88.

How could all these indicators be wrong? I'm planning to live to my mid-90s, and I'm going to have fun doing it. I like thinking that I still have a third of my life left. :)

ed. Seriously, though, psychics or not, I have no reason to believe that I won't live to be quite old, barring an unforeseen accident or something. Longevity runs in my family, and at 62 I have no health problems at all, other than being managed hypothyroid -- good blood pressure, low cholesterol, a steady heart. I eat right, get a good amount of exercise, and I actually feel better than I did when I was younger. I had a "badhusbandectomy" which helped. :)

There are still places I want to travel to. And since I'll never be rich, it'll take time to save the money.

Seriously, I've picked up the longevity genes in the family genetic wading pool, so I expect to make the 90's...unless I die first. :)

35. Until I can no longer appreciate living
I'm terrified of Alzheimers. I've been watching a good friend of mine transform into a doddering old fool who can barely dress himself. He lives alone and I'm afraid he's going to burn his house down or cause a horrible car accident.

If I get that bad, take me out and shoot me - I probably won't even notice.

Mom's 90, and Daddy's 88...

And they're living independently!

I'd like to live at least that long...

But...

I'll take what I get.

There are still so many things I want to do!

41. Depends on my mood that day
Edited on Thu Jul-16-09 12:52 AM by Juche
When I am in a shitty mood, I'm happy to die at 80 like most everyone else expects to. When I am in a better mood I want to take advantage of the supposed advances in biotech that are supposed to hit in the next two decades (according to Kurzweil) and live for hundreds of years. I'm 30 now. But hopefully over the course of this century we fix many of the problems that are plaguing us. Lack of natural resources, lack of sustainability, hunger, poverty, disease, etc. The 20th century was a pretty good century for advances. Naturally, there was evil and will always be evil, but the 20th century saw massive advances against endless diseases, half the worlds countries became liberal democracies, science advanced massively, etc. I'm hoping the same happens in the 21st century, which I'm sure it will. Massive advances in human rights and democracy, massive scientific and medical advances, higher quality of life, sustainable lifestyles, etc. Not bad for a species of primates.

So I want to live to see the 22nd century at least (I'll be 121). But longer than that would be good too.
