1. That whole album is a genuine masterpiece
I personally don't think I could narrow my favorite Band tune down to fewer than maybe a couple dozen. But I hope it resonates for you mainly because its just such a beautiful song, and not because of the theme of lost love . ( or maybe being from Pecos, you just know what it feels like to live near the whispering pines)

3. Prefer "Big Pink" to the second record- b/c it's a little stranger....
...just a tad quirky and a little more "psychedelic." Seems to take a few more chances...

Then again the Basement Tapes are probably my favorite recordings by those guys, hands down....

4. the cover

This was the only Band album my parents had and my first listen, I was a lucky child. It's my favorite, followed by Big Pink and Rock of Ages (especially the re-release with the Dylan tracks).

2. Good one- but I'd go with "King Harvest"- dig that Steve Cropper style solo.

6. Had never thought about it as being "Steve Cropper style' , but now that you mention it
it really is. Good ear, Dr....

5. Recently read Levon Helm's autobiography, "This Wheel's on Fire"
since you're both obviously Band fans, I think you'd find it as interesting as I did...

7. I love where Levon's Grand Dad calls the KKK "dress wearing sissies"
Which is very funny to me, b/c my grand dad on my mother's side had a similar name for them...
