A moment too historical to go unrecognized, even for a Cowboys fan.
The Catch.

Sorry madinmaryland, but this moment ushered in a dynasty and destroyed another.
Dallas would not really win again until the Jimmy Johnson years.

looking forward to football

NFC EAST!

Edited on Wed Jul-15-09 05:45 PM by mix
when teams like the Raiders dominated them, and Favre? Dallas kicked his ass on a regular basis in the 90s.

12. It wasn't always good...
remember how bad the team sucked while he built the team up?

Remember people being pissed off when Emmitt was drafted?

Those were the days that tested true Cowboys fans... it all paid off though.

28. I'm sure you recall it was the N.Y. Giants that kept San Francisco
from winning three straight Super Bowls. In the fourth quarter of the 1991 NFC Championship game DE Leonard Marshall knocked Joe Montana out of the game and, essentially, any future with the 49ers. That was bigger than any earthquake.

35. Afterward, Marshall said:
'It was a good, clean hit, just a football hit, but I knew I hurt him bad. I knew he wasn't going to be back. I could hear him moaning.''

A great defensive back who did exceptionally well in that game despite falling short on that famous play.

Why start this thread now? It's not the anniversary of the catch... is there some other legitimate reason for a Cowboys fan to just post this from out of the blue... ????

18. strongly dislike the 49s
but they've given Dallas some classic moments and games...and they've achieved Dallas level excellence: they've actually won a Super Bowl, unlike the Eagles.

Just trying to stir up some football talk, sorry if I've offended diehard sensibilities.

26. lol that was odd
I posted to talk about how great Everson Walls was as a player who had a great game despite coming up short on "the catch". 2 interceptions, 7 tackles, and a fumble recovery I believe?

Only for the poster to ignore my praise for Walls and post even more photos of the catch.

27. sorry
I like Walls, but your comment made me think about what happened up front on the play (and if there were any pix)...the seeming break down of protection...Montana and Clark would later claim that the play was scripted and they had practiced it.

Walls is one of the greatest, no doubt.

I hate the Cowboys but they have had some really talented players. Side note Danny White played in that game which is my high school's claim to fame.(he graduated from the same HS I went to) Pretty much the only well known graduates is Danny White and the band Authority Zero.

38. Hiya, Mix!
Most entertaining football game I've ever seen-- prior or since. Ans I'll give SF due credit, they did play well that night; it could have gone either way in the first quarter.

It was like watching two skilled surgeons going to work on each other, but the domination of the SF defense by the Dallas O-line was a glorious sight to behold. Irvin tripped up? Pass it to Harper. Harper not in the clear? Chuck it to Novacek or Moose. And let's not even start in on Dallas' running game that night.

Sigh. Torrents, torrents torrents to behold-- but try as I might, the ONLY thing I want to download (that specific game) has eluded me. Oh well, I still have my memories. :)

(JJ's guarantee of a victory was as though he poured salt into a wound not yet made....)

Edited on Wed Jul-15-09 06:36 PM by mix
anyway, i agree that the '92 game was one of the greatest for me too...it was that Alvin Harper catch and run, a slant pattern, deep in Dallas territory that really broke the game open.
