It was absolutely amazing. I had no idea.
All the filmed launches I've have seen had done nothing to prepare me for how completely incredible of a thing this is to witness.
We were having a family reunion there at the time and hadn't planned it that way but happened to coincide the trip with a shuttle launch. We watched from the very north end of Cocoa Beach which looks straight across to the launch pads (about 8 miles away I think.)
The experience made me want to see a night launch one day.

Endeavour is in orbit and on its way to the ISS.
I was kinda hoping that it would be delayed until tomorrow so it could launch on the fortieth anniversary of the launch of Apollo 11.
