What do you need to sleep?
I need a cool, dark, and relatively quiet space. But I also need these:

2. Cool with blankets is best, and white noise of some sort...
there's an amazing White Noise app for the iPhone/iPod Touch that gives you like 50 different "flavors" of noises... put in the noise-blocking earbuds, and I could sleep in a revolving door.

but if that's not available, a fan or a radio tuned to static works fine, too.

I need to be good and tired, first.

I also need to have nothing substantial on my mind...

The room temperature is also very important...

7. I needed a couple of these when there was some
major construction going on outside - lasted almost a year - but two of these babies bought me the perfect sleep environment.

Black-out drapes, door closed, TV on (sleep timer set), and cool cotton sheets - temperature as low as possible.

14. Cool with blankets, plus dark room but radio on.
Plus my prescribed sleep aid.

I have to have noise on at all times - I have tinnitus and silence is deafening, literally because all you hear is this bloody ringing. The radio takes my mind off of it more or less.

Mark.

I leave the TV on all night. Sometimes it must be quite loud to overcome the ringing.

18. About 18 cans of beer, on an average day.
I'm fairly certain that I'm past "drinking problem"
and well into "serious alcoholic" territory.

Luckily, I foresaw this potential future, and planned for it:
I currently have no one who depends upon me, and no one
who will miss me much when I'm no longer here.

All in all, I sleep well.

32. oxycodone
My ear has been infected for, literally, 31 years.

That's what happens when you don't have health insurance due to "a pre-existing condition".

My state recently got a program that pays for insurance. I may finally have a physician who can fix it.

52. They're out for me
Exercise is the most helpful, though the opiates promote weight gain. I'm currently built like a Sumo wrestler.

The locus of my pain is in my ear(s), so I don't get relief from "non-brainstem" meds.

My doctor says I should try to hook up with someone and have sex a lot more (more than never). That appears to be impossible. So I'll keep up with the hiking.
