Staffordshire maze carved into Wild West scene

A maze in a Staffordshire cornfield has been cut to look like a scene from America's Wild West.

16 Jul 2009

National Forest Maize Maze and the face of a Native American clansman in a cornfield near Burton-upon-Trent in Staffordshire

The design, which features a Native American clansman complete with a giant cactus and a coyote howling under a full moon, is the latest at the National Forest Maize Maze, near Burton-upon-Trent.

Covering 14 acres, the labyrinth features a network of nearly 3.5 miles of paths.

One of the largest in Europe, the maze was blessed in a traditional "cleansing ceremony" by a Native American called Que Vato Cosio Da, a member of the Hopi Nation of the Eagle Clan.

Que Vato Cosio Da, which means "man who greets the sun singing", dressed in Native American clothing and head dress and used eagle feathers in the ritual to bring good fortune to the maze.
