11. Oh, there's plenty to do...

If she's into art, the Center For Maine Contemporary Art (http://www.artsmaine.org/) is in Rockport, which is about an 80 minute drive from Freeport. About 10 minutes from Rockport is Rockland, home of the Farnsworth Art Museum (http://www.farnsworthmuseum.org/). They have a special Wyeth Center, which had a great Wyeth/Warhol/Basquiat exhibition the last time we were there. Rockland also has all kinds of great specialty shops, etc. (including an awesome toy store). Lots of B&Bs there as well.

Freeport isn't that far from Portland, which is an absolutely marvelous city with a great downtown and port area. If your sister has kids, they have a great kids museum there as well. Also an aquarium, although we've never been to that.

Augusta is not too far to the north, and they also have a great kids museum. And an Olive Garden! :)

There's always miniature golf and ice cream in Waterville, although the name of the place escapes me at the moment.

Whatever she does, she needs to go to Gritty McDuff's in Freeport (or Portland) for food and beer.

22. Popham Beach in Phippsburg is lovely,

and if the sun's shining and the water's shallow, it can actually get warm enough to wade into the water.

And all up and down the coast there are little restaurants and lobster shacks to discover. A favorite of mine is Five Islands in Georgetown.

The Bowdoin Summer Music Festival in Brunswick has good classical music if they're into that.

Further inland, there's a cute little town called Hallowell on the Kennebec River on the way to Augusta. Nice shops there and beautiful old houses.

Monhegan Island is worth a day trip or, better yet, a night's layover. Take the boat from Port Clyde or Pemaquid.

Boothbay Harbor is a cute little tourist trap with opportunities for boat rides and whale watches.

26. +1 - I lived in Phippsburg for two years, Popham is great. They just added on

to the bathing/showering facilities.

I live in Rockport now and there is also a lot to do up here as many others have suggested.

I just did the Monhegan Island trip for the first time and it is a beautiful little island with great trails.

Acadia is free this weekend, I think.

I have only been to Brunswick once and for much of that visit what I remember is the cold and the dark. Rode down on the back of a motorcycle for some kind of game at Bowdoin.In the FREEZING season. I have no memory of the game, or the campus, only of the horrible cold ride on that bike and all I was looking for were places that looked like they might sell hot coffee. My date wanted to to 'make time' rather than stop. Gives new meaning to the saying 'the journey not the arrival matters'. It is all I can remember.

33. I really wish I could ...

A dream vacation for me would be a nice leisurely (say all summer at least) road trip through Maine, some beach, some boating, lots of lobstah and steamers steamers steamers galore, some swimming, some shopping, visiting (lots of alums up there) and a proper clambakes and just poking around. ..that is a dream of mine. And I'd also like to be there for a really wicked winter with a minimum of three blizzards and at least some weather between 20 and 40 below. With of course the most unstoppable imperturbable vehicle made. That's invigorating stuff!!
