What are your occupational hazards?
Mine: paper cuts and anxiety attacks.

Yours?

4. Concussion, severe cuts and potentially death.
I work in the tools department at a department store as a commissioned sales rep.

It sounds nice but I frequently come home with gashes and cuts from the sharp edges of tools and occasionally a split knuckle from falling paint cans. Some idiot nearly dropped a hammer on my head and I fell off a ladder, smacked my head on an end-cap of table vices and rendered myself unconscious one afternoon.

My coworkers can't for the life of them figure out why I'd rather be upstairs selling suits or loafers.

15. Generally, yes.
Viruses and bacteria can live in and outside of the body for various amounts of time after death. I wear alot of protective gear and sometimes have the luxury of knowing the cause of death before the procedure if it were from a contagious disease.

You on the other hand put your life on the line to SAVE someone and that is very brave. At least I don't have to deal with crazy or violent people while I'm "operating" on someone.

I originally wanted to be a doctor, but I messed around as a teenager and my family didn't have the money for medical school.

10. My regular job not much, my volunteer EMS and Rescue work
catching an infectious disease, street violence, attacks from mentally ill or drunk/high patients, back and other joint injuries while carrying, auto accidents, being struck by a car while working in streets, post traumatic stress, lack of sleep, . That's the medical side on the rescue side- falls, crushing injuries, electrocution, cuts, objects falling on me, burns, explosives from car safety systems, confined space dangers and so on.

Falling out of boats and incurring injuries that way.

Stingrays, sharks, hardhead catfish (those spines are a menace) and assorted fish spine injuries, jellyfish

Every communicable disease that's out there (Well, I do have vaccinations for some of them!)

Very common: migraines, all kinds of foot problems; bladder infections; and other aches and pains from lifting, bending, climbing, crawling, and other contortions that the adult body no longer willingly does.

Me personally: carpal tunnel from doing art work, and ruined eyesight from all the paperwork!

:hi:

19. Death.
Commercial driving has been much safer in recent years, mostly due to less miles being driven by private vehicles.

The chances of me being killed in an accident caused by a driver in an automobile making a mistake is around 66-75% depending on whose statistics you use. Insurance companies use the lower one, government agencies use the higher one.

Drivers in big trucks are more afraid of automobile drivers than anything else.

we are lacking in the large farm machinery, but I am around crappy regular vehicles way too much so all the hazards they pose, I am exposed to

large animals
small poisonous animals
sun, rain, lightening, cold (can't recall that sensation at the moment)
late nights/middle of the nights lack of sleep
heavy lifting
toxic chemicals (we don't use many, but I'm thinking gasoline and motor oil)
sharp medical instruments
sharp plant life
sharp fenceing
driving on and off road
guns and idiots
old lumber, rocks, holes
fire
occasional flooding

30. This might take a while.
I'm currently 95% cube rat, but generally hazards may include the following: Lyme's Disease, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, rabies (I know folks who have been treated for all of these, and most of the rest I'll mention), molds and unidentified hazardous wastes, cuts, gashes, bruises and smashes, dogs, bulls, falls, trench cave-ins, electrocution, traffic, both in it and working beside it, tornadoes, heat stroke, various body failures, i.e. ankles, knees, backs, shoulders, tendinitus is common, poison ivy and it's evil cousins, oak and sumac, snakes, spiders, frostbite, whew...

Maybe in my next life I'll be a lion tamer.

Nobody to blame but myself (I'm a freelancer). Nothing like seeing a direct line from work to money (and, likewise, NO work to NO money) to put the fear of god into you.

On edit: Also--losing my mind from having no one to talk to. Hence one browser window always on DU! (Hence the problem with risking missing deadlines....heyyyy...IT'S ALL DU'S FAULT! :D)

42. Killing someone comes very high on the list
Let's see...running over a pedestrian or a motorist, destroying an object, large fines, jail time, dying, damaging my own vehicle, incurring the wrath of a shipper, a consignee or my dispatcher, rolling the vehicle over, cargo incidents, assholes jumping up on your tank steps giving you directions that take you straight to their buddies who are waiting to hijack your truck, and the everpresent "trafficking in illegal immigrants."

43. Concussions, kicks, bites, joint injuries, severe bodily harm
You name it - I have horses. Not just horses, I have a farm so to add to all the injuries the horses inflict on me, I also can deal with heavy equipment, power tools, various forms of wildlife, heat stroke, exposure and so on. Well, these days not so much heavy equipment. I shredded the meniscus in one knee driving the tractor so unless I want knee replacement real soon I am not supposed to drive it anymore.

And then the years we are expecting foals, there is the insomnia of watching the mares added to my normal insomnia. That actually works out very well for me since it gives me an excuse for staying up all night and sleeping in the daytime.
