I had a dream that health reform failed to pass. Obama addressed the nation.
My fellow Americans, it is Friday, July 31, 2009 and health care reform has failed in the Congress. I promised help to Americans who need it. I also promised to let Americans who were satisfied with their health care keep it. I will keep my promises. I believe none can argue Congress succumbed to the vast money and influence of lobbyists for vested interests. I have reached out in a bipartisan manner to conservatives, and promise I will try once more.

I have directed the following actions to be taken. Each is within the constitutional powers reserved to the President of the United States, and not subject to review by the Judicial or Legislative branches of government.

They have chosen to keep health insurance tied to employment. I will therefore bring the country to full employment and beyond.

Many of you do not know the Federal Reserve is required by law give equal weight to lowering inflation and lowering unemployment. It has been clear that the concerns of the Fed have been tilted towards the concern of the rich, inflation, than the concern the poor, unemployment for too many years. I intend to use the considerable influence of the executive branch to correct this.

Job off-shoring and wage deflation are the direct result of unbalanced trade agreements written for the benefit of giant multinational corporations. I have directed the Office of the Trade Representative to give notice our intent to withdraw from the World Trade Organization and the 17 other free trade agreements we are signatory to. All contain provisions for unilateral withdrawl by any member nation with 6 months notice.

The H1-B visa program is rife with corruption, I have directed no new H1B visas will be issued and all current visas will be allowed to expire. All visas in the L1, L2 and other categories will each be re-examined on an individual basis.

Multinational corporations enjoy the considerable protection and influence of the US State Department and US Military to protect their overseas operations from the avarice of their host countries.. All protection, assistance and intervention behalf of them now ends at the borders of the United States and its protectorates, unless specifically approved by the President and Commander-in-Chief.

I would remind the large corporations that although anti-trust laws have only been weakly enforced or ignored altogether for decades, they are not still the law of the land. Trust busting is again now a priority of the Attorney General and Chief Executive.

Congress may attempt to restore existing free trade agreements unchanged. I remind them the Constitution requires all treaties to carry the signature of the Chief Executive, even those passed by unanimous vote. I suggest they be revised to protect the interests of American citizens instead of international capital. I realize the current Congress will have extra work reviewing, re-writing, and passing so many treaties in so little time. Many would suggest they take fewer recesses and hire more staff. However, it is my intention to let these treaties as written expire. I realize the same interests will attempt to control the outcome again.

Today is Friday, July 31, 2009. By tradition, tomorrow Congress will begin its August recess. I believe none can say that I haven't used these 6 months and 11 days to make every effort at bi-partisan outreach to the Republican members of Congress and conservative members of my own party. I promise you I will try once more.

I want to give my most sincere and heartfelt thanks to Republican members of Congress in both George W. Bush administrations and the many fine members of his cabinet. It was only through their efforts that the finest technical abilities are now available. The monitoring abilities of the covert agencies and major telecommunications companies are vastly beyond what has been publicly revealed.

Yet the ability to use these assets are only made possible, and again my sincere thanks goes to the previous administration, by the legal tools of the PATRIOT act, the revisions to FISA, and the Military Commissions Act.

I'm informed by my Attorney General and others that we now have evidence of thousands actionable, indictable crimes including bribery, extortion and influence-peddling. Thanks to the provisions contained in RICO, the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, the indictments will go all the way to the top. Hundreds of warrants are being served, and United States Marshals will be knocking on doors minutes from now. FAA has been directed to stop approving new flight plans on a range of business aircraft. It will take weeks or even months, but we can and we will be arresting tens of thousands of lobbyists, corporate officers, and titans of wall street.

Thank you for time and attention. I had to act with audacity, to give you hope. Power had corrupted absolutely the Republicans. Yet, I still am troubled. I propose to reach out one last time. If congress can pass legislation to remove my newer powers, such as the Patriot Act, FISA, MCA and others, I will sign it into law. After, and only after, the health care reform bill that reaches my standards reaches the Oval office for approval.

Those arrested, and the arrests will continue, will be prosecuted. That is the law of the land. You can't ex post facto their crimes, because ex post facto is what will have to be repealed in the MCA. A thorny catch-22, many would say.

I think Republicans and Democrats can work together to solve this constitutional crisis quickly, so this is your one last chance. If you don't, I'll know the system is corrupt beyond saving. I promised to try, but I don't know how long I can hold out. I can do so much good with the powers I have now.

1. wow. wow wow wow wow.
I don't know if this post belonged in general discussion or the lounge but it sure is some dream. I doubt it'll ever happen like this, but in terms of healthcare I think Mr. Obama will be definitely down Congress's throat until something passes. I expect to see something this year for sure, but I don't think our President would do anything like that in your dream because as we know the money talks, and a speech like that would tank the dollar and we'd be so screwed. But some of the sentiments... :)))

Mark.
