Question for people familiar with the Outer Banks: Where is Bodie Island? |
|
Seriously, I've seen multiple definitions and frankly I'm confused.
Is it:
a) The area between Whalebone Junction and Oregon Inlet.
b) The area between Whalebone Junction and Rodanthe.
c) Everything south of the Virginia border that's north of the Oregon Inlet.
d) Something else.

Bodie Island used to be separate from the Currituck Banks and once was a true island, but now the whole shooting match is a peninsula.
Spent many a summer on the Banks as a kid and probably wouldn't recognize it today with the amount of development that has occurred.

Once was an island in its own right. It merged up north... what is considered Pea Island south of Bodie (the Oregon Inlet) was part of Bodie ... but that merged into Hatteras.
Get a nice storm, those islands will shift. (See Portsmouth, NC).
One thing is for sure. Bodie Island is *definitely* north of Oregon inlet. As to where it stops at the top... I literally don't know.
