1. Way to get it early, so you're immune in the fall
When the deadly pandemic sweeps the globe, you'll be feelin' fine, struttin'.

:hi:

(hope you feel better soon)

3. Hope you get to feeling better - sleep, drink plenty of fluids and take care of yourself.

If you have asthma or an underlying condition you may want to see your doctor immediately to get tamiflu - otherwise just ride it out. if you have real difficulty breathing get medical help immediately. I was out a week with it and another 3-4 weeks of bronchitis afterward. The severity varies wildly.

I agree with the other post - at least you will be immuized for fall - particularly if the virus gains virulence this fall.

5. thanks hon!
I called the hospital, as I do have allergies and asthma. I have already had it too long for the tamiflu to really be effecttive. She said home care, don't even need to see my pcp on monday. kinda pointless. UNLESS I become acutely ill, asthma that can't bee controlled or very high fever. She said the begining is the worst if you don't have complications so I have high hopes that things will only get better......

4. I had it. It sucked (esp. the fever for 4 days), but it wasn't the worst flu
Edited on Sat Jul-18-09 10:39 AM by Lex
I've ever had either. Takes about 10 days to 2 weeks to fully run its course from beginning (a sore throat) to end (a bad cough). In between was not too fun, but as I said, not the sickest with the flu I've been either.

Hang in there.

I have had a fever for about three days, and I think it broke during my last -----quil sleep inducement. I feel better than I did at 6 am. Still sneezing and food is gross. Back to bed I go.

Send all those good vibes please!

hhehe......odd bonus. My family has been pissing me off! Now I HAVE to stay away from them. If there is a God, he works in mysterious ways. lol

7. Sounds like you are through the worst - Now two days of only sleeping
would be my perscription from my experience (and no family visits!) Keep drinking plenty of fluids - I let myself get to dehydrated at the stage you sound like your at - gatorade, water or as the ER doctor said - chicken soup!. Good luck - let us know when you are feeling better.

12. Get well soon. As a public service, any idea where/how you got it?
I admit to my denseness, but my confusion starts with seeing all the filter-masks on t.v. while hearing that it's not airborne. Then there are those wipe-downs, but since these aren't widespread? why are there *not* more cases?

Sincere thanks for any clue.

13. Its the flu so it is defintely airborne - its just most masks don't filter it so are not protective
Edited on Sat Jul-18-09 01:16 PM by stray cat
its estimated that 10% of NYers have been infected eventhough this is not flu season and it normally dies out in the spring. Most infected people are not being tracked so the number of confirmed cases are only those likely to have required hospitalization. If you are sick you are suppose to just stay home and hopefully not spread it around unless it takes a turn for the worse and you need medical assistance. ie its a common infection this summer and millions have had it and it is still spreading - however, like the normal flu - the majority survive it and are only out of work for a week or two or less.

14. Don't touch your nose near your nostrils, or your eyes if you are around
door handles, touchpads, keyboards, pens the public uses to sign credit card slips, etc., or anything that someone incubating the virus may have touched because that may be a transmission point, then the virus gets into your body. When you get home from anywhere where you touch stuff that other people touch, wash your hands.
If someone is coughing or sneezing try to stay away from them.

<snip>
The swine flu is transmitted just the way any viral disease is transmitted -- person-to-person contact, by touching something someone with a virus has already touched, or from droplets in the air which come from a sneeze or a cough of a person who has the swine flu.

15. thanks to all, wasn't feeling up to replying to each post just now
But to answer your question, my bro and nephew have it, they just got back from Chicago. Strange that I too have it and have not bee around them. My Great Aunt got it, we are assuming at the drs, where she goes cause she is 86. She gave it to my mom, who in turn bestowed it on me. I may have given it to an entire kareoke bar.....eeeeek

Strangely, my brother had it while he lived in vermont, he got it on a plane ride from Pitt, Pa to Burlington, Vt.

16. Sickness can enter through the ears, too.
I wonder if peroxide cleaning can help with that.

20. Well, thanks again, I always like being immunized for contagious pandecmics.
Who doesn't? Off to sleep again. Strange though, when I ingest enough cold medicine, not too much, just the recommened dose for several days, I start dreaming in musicals, but they are all mine. Last night I dreamt two full length feature movies with original scores. I only do this when I am really sick.
