1. I have that very one sitting out on my deck.
It could use detailing though.

2. Same model I have
Even when they get worn down, they're still pretty. :-)

Like a fine cast iron skillet, they improve with seasoning.

3. We used to have that one until my husband's dad got all fancy
and made us a HUGE grill. A grill that my husband and I could never possibly occupy completely with food no matter how many guests we have over. But, alas, my husband was thrilled.

It takes so much damn charcoal to heat it though. Ugh!

4. Sounds like you could have a pig pickin' for the whole town
:D

I also have one of these for car camping trips and picnics:

Weber's "Smokey Joe" tabletop grill. :bounce:

8. Yep, have that one too! That is our travel grill!
You just never know when you need to grill. At least in my husband's mind. Grilling is a hobby to him. I don't mind though because yummy food is all I really care about! ;)

Although with all his damn toys, he also wants to add this

The Big Green Egg

Now do we need that? Hell no! It is getting ridiculous!

10. That's too fancified for me, LOL
I will check the meat's temp with a good ol' fashioned meat thermometer, but I don't want computers near my grill! :D

It's all about making a great meal. I am not a big power tool guy. But I do love my guitars, and my grill. I guess we guys have to humor our inner-caveman somehow. ;-)

7. I am a charcoal fundamentalist
Weber makes gas grills, but only because of competition and market demand - but that's the one product of theirs I will never own.

I like to get wood charcoal when I can - especially for the bigger projects.

Maybe you could buy one of these Smokey Joes for your next weekend getaway or picnic in the park:

11. I think my mom just got rid of hers after almost 40 years
I can't remember when she said they first bought it, but I know it was sometime in the early 70s. I doubt her new grill will last that long ... that thing cooked a lotta meals :)

13. Most things are built to be obsolete
Which makes me wonder how they stay in business. Same basic design, albeit with a few cosmetic changes here and there over the decades. But built to LAST.

They have excellent customer service - and it's based at their HQ in Illinois too. Some years ago, I lost the ash-catcher on the bottom. I used to just let it rest on the top of the clips, so I could remove it much more easily for cleaning. A bad wind and rainstorm blew it away off my balcony, never to be found. So I called them to order and pay for a new one. After briefly explaining what happened, the customer service rep said she could send me a new one, FREE of charge, and with FREE shipping. I was impressed, and very appreciative. It was MY laziness and stupidity, not their neglect, that cost me the part, and they made the offer without any inducement whatsoever. That's the kind of service that engenders loyalty. It arrived in two days.

Needless to say, I use those clips now, and got smart enough to use a mini-broom and dustpan to sweep the catcher long after the ashes cool.

12. I also have the exact same one sitting on my patio
I had purchased it for my mother in '96 and when she passed on in '98 I adopted it.
Still grilling on it after all these years.

14. If you see what fishwax posted
It will last you for years!

I bought my first model in 1996 - the 18.5-incher. I had a small balcony, and didn't need to cook for more than myself and a few buddies anyway.

I upgraded to the 22.5-incher when I moved to CA, got married, and moved to a place with a large patio. Amazing what a difference 4 inches of diameter makes with the cooking area.

That first one is still being used by the friend I left it with in Seattle.

15. Yes, exact same model
The wood handle part is gone so you have to use caution if the handle gets hot.
When I get a chance, I will look into fixing it up.

17. I miss the wooden handles
The rubbery plastic ones are too modern, lol. It may the only disappointing thing they have ever done. :-)
