You know, there's a lot of great Stephen King movies |
|
Don't let the Firestarters and Children of the Corns fool you. Stephen King adaptations have a pretty decent track record.
Carrie The Shining The Dead Zone Creepshow Cujo Christine Stand By Me Pet Semetery Misery The Shawshank Redemption The Green Mile 1408 The Mist
A good way to spend a weekend, if you ask me.

I have seen Shawshank so many times that I can literally speak along with the movie. Brilliant writer!

2. I got 1408 from Netflix not along ago-- |

Found it very creepy, and Cusak was really good in it. It got to me because sometimes, hotels are sinister IRL. Appliances and plumbing don't work right. You can be alone and jet-lagged, and your mind works on you. You wonder who was in the room before you. Even without a "haunting", a hotel room can be weird if you have the right kind of imagination.
(I just throw that out there for anyone who's going on vacation anytime soon....)
The Dead Zone and Shawshank Redemption are my favorites, though.

4. King's " Cell" to be a mini-series |
|
from Aint It Cool News 7/13/09
Harrison, who wrote and directed the 2000 “Dune” miniseries for SciFi, tells Fangoria he’s now working on a four-hour miniseries adaptation of Stephen King’s 2006 novel “Cell” for the Weinstein Company.
Which means, I guess, that “Hostel” mastermind Eli Roth is no longer working on a feature version.
“Cell” tells the tale of a hive mind that takes over the humans via mobile phones.
Harrison, first assistant director on George Romero’s King-scripted 1982 anthology feature “Creepshow,” went on to write and direct numerous episodes of anthology shows like “Tales From The Darkside,” “Tales From The Crypt” and “Monsters.”
Harrison also directed 1990’s “Tales From The Darkside: The Movie,” based in part on King’s short story “Cat From Hell.”
No word on which channel may end up airing the project.
Find all of Fangoria’s story on the matter here.
It has a real "night of the living dead" vibe to it. I had a few quibbles with the story but liked it overall.

6. The book was OK, but not one of his best. |
|
I'd be curious to see the film adaptation of it though.

Matt Frewer was great...
But I'd say King's movies are definitely hit or miss...

9. The MIst is the best adaptation of all, imho. |
|
Depressing as all hell, but that doesn't take away from the fact that it is incredibly well done.

11. You left out one of the best: Dolores Claiborne |
|
Of your list, I would say most are exceptional movies, especially Green Mile and Shawshank and Shining, but Pet Semetary, 1408 and The Mist were not so good.

17. 'Salems Lot was another good one |
|
The original one, from the 70's. The remake, not so much. Still pales compared to the book though. The only movie adaptation of his that I would say equaled the book in quality was probably Misery, and maybe the Green Mile. The other on your list have been pretty good, but inferior to the books IMHO.
