What is your favorite scene from the Harry Potter movie, the Half Blood Prince?
Mine was the part when I opened the exit doors and realized I had forgotten to put my sunglasses on; then I put them on! I have to wonder what the credits looked like though. Maybe the last 10 minutes will be posted on youtube so I can watch it without having to see the first 2hrs 20 minutes.

How bout you!?

2. Huge fan of the story. Not that you can tell how subtle and coherent it is
by watching the movies.

3. I liked the movie - but you are right - its hard to translate the beauty of the book
I like you terms subtle and coherence - they are a great description. Have your ever listened to the books on CD unabridged? - those are well done:hi:

6. I will have to look into that.
I really enjoyed the illuminatus trilogy audiobook. That story really benefits from the voices and distinctions. The way it is written is so right brain, that it can be hard to follow in the printed format.

4. The love potion scene with Ron
I've always thought Rupert Grint was the best actor of the three younger stars. I only go to movies because my youngest enjoys them. Books are always better than the movies, imo.

5. I like Rupert; he's better than the Potter boy at acting.
Of course books are always better, but the movies, mostly, aren't even good movies; to say nothing of the translation.

7. I Love Luna
And I cannot understand how any of those boys also don't fall in love with her. Geesh!

She's cute as hell, and funny. When she wears that Lion King's head, how do you not go gaga over someone like that?

She's always there to help Harry out of jams, and what does she get from him? Nothing. Nada. Zip.

Voldemort should kill that little boring bugger.

8. I have never read the books, nor seen all the movies.
Saw parts of the first film, that's about it.

 I like scifi and fantasy books, but never got into the Harry Potter films or books.

As soon as I saw how they were drawing a distinction between normal people and a select few born by blood lines, given 'special craft educations' and claims of having some 'power' I discarded the whole movie as elitist crap. Especially when they showed Potter's normal parents as so bad and crude.

Maybe their is more to it.

12. Elitist crap? And Potter had no live parents -he was an orphan who had nothing
and his best friend was poor once he had a friend..

14. Being an orphan reinforces the blood line stuff.
And his 'normal' family was shown to be bad. It is not about poor or rich, since many groups have edicts to find the 'special' people and mentor them, like that example showed.

It might have been my bias that pointed that part out, but it was just my feeling on it.

It can lead to thoughts of privilege and superiority.

The movie Matilda had a similar theme, as did Cinderella, so not saying that was the intent, just that it was how I saw it.

13. it's actually all about accepting differences
One of the main characters is from normal parents and has to fight prejudice by some...even though she's very talented. It's not elitist at all . There are good normals and bad normals and good wizards and bad wizards. Not at all elitist. Oh and I loved the newest movie

Just my view on it.

It matched so many ideas.

23. Nope, as I said there are many other views on the films.
Edited on Mon Jul-20-09 12:39 PM by RandomThoughts
And as I said, I have not read or seen the films. Since I say that, I am not saying I know what they are about, I only shared my experience of not watching them because of the beginning part I didn't like.

I don't say my opinions are right, just sharing them.

And note that I mentioned I did not see the movies, so people would not think I am making a comprehensive opinion, just one based on the start of first film.

I have a valid opinion on the start of the first film, as I stated.

17. Are you HIGH?
The series is very STRONGLY anti-fascist.

Harry was raised by muggles, his best friend is muggle-born, and his other best friend's family is considered a traitor to the wizarding race because his dad collects muggle stuff, and THIS is what the evil dude wants to stamp out.

Damn.

Damn.

Seriously, the whole message of the story is about how racism is bullshit.

opinionated but ignorant - the opinions might be interesting if the poster ever cracks a book to see what it says.

27. I prefaced my comment saying I did not read the books.
Edited on Mon Jul-20-09 12:38 PM by RandomThoughts
In that I made it clear it was not a full evaluation, or based on the entire stories, how is that wrong?

I also said I did not know the entire story by saying "maybe their is more to it"

Notice how I clearly stated point of reference, and acknowledged that my opinion was not the only one.

25. I was not specifically talking about racism. much of privilege thought is not racism,
intellectualism, classism, aristocracy more about privilege,

Like I said, I didn't see the movies or read the books, so not sure what they are about. I just mentioned the part that took the fun out of it for me, not saying it is the whole story, don't know that. Just mentioned what I thought of the start of the first film.

9. One of the first scenes when Snape was promising to do "the job" if Draco couldn't complete it.
The look in Snapes eyes when he had to be bound to doing it sealed the whole movie for me. I really liked it, but I haven't read the books.
