Used car question
What percentage off sticker price should I be able to get on a used car? I am trying to buy a used Wrangler Jeep. It is listed for $10,900.00. Should I be able to get them down more than $1000.00? It has been years since I have purchased a used vehicle.

1. What year is it?
What are they asking for it? Four- or six cylinder?

Is this a hypothetical question, or are you looking at ads in the paper?

2. It is a 2002 with 70,000 miles.
I have checked on every used Wrangler in the Chicago area. The price seems to be in line but was wondering what to expect in terms of negotiating on used cars in this economy. I have two friends really into cars and one says the rule of thumb these days is 20% off and the other says 10%. The dealer said he would take $1000.00 off sticker of 10,900.00. Should I press for more? I am not a very good negotiator.

3. I agree with your friends.
I would be satisfied that a fair price had been reached at 15% off list. Counter at $9200 and see if he will move closer to $9500. Still looking for my Wrangler. :hi:
