They were almost as bad as when I saw them two years ago. I should learn my lesson. And I love their music on cCD.

2. Here's what I like about them
They play contemplative, moody, soundtrack-like music on te CDs. Live they play loud, obnoxious rock. They keyboardist/guitarists plays punky, loud noise on both instruments. They only played one quiet, interesting song. We left early. Fortunately, the concerts were free both times I saw them.

3. You say "loud, obnoxious rock" like it is a bad thing.
Obnoxious takes many forms in music, some is good, some not so much.

5. Let's put it this way
It's like going to see Joan Baez and it turns out she's got a loud electric band with her and they do all Metallica covers. If your familiar with Yo La Tengo's music, you'd know what I mean.

6. I think Fakebook (that's one tour I saw years ago) was very mellow and
not really typical of their work. I think they do both well, and that's impressive in itself.

4. oh, I enjoyed seeing them live years ago

I like their quiet stuff, but I also love how they can rock out! Plus there weren't that many female drummers back then, so that was always fun to see.

Don't go see Sonic Youth, then. :D

7. I was expecting Latin / World music when I went to see them
What kind of fucked up name is Yo La Tengo for a band that plays Hobo-grunge?

9. they are big Met's fans and at the time there was an outfielder who yelled
Yo la tengo (I think it means "I got it" or something in Spanish.) That's what they explained at a show I went to.

11. I've seen Ira hanging out at a luxury box at Yankee Stadium
They just make up that Mets thing to give themselves hipster credibility.

like, 18 years ago - I think their indie cred is intact.

13. It's always been more fashionable to be a Mets fan
The Yankees represent the establishment man.

10. Yo La Tengo should be Spanish for "hit or miss"
I can probably count on both hands the number of YLT songs I've REALLY liked over the years, (except I love ALL of Fakebook, which is almost all cover tunes). Yet, I read the reviews of each new album, and at some point give in and buy/borrow it, only to be disappointed for the most part, with a few rare exceptions.
