19. In terms of income potential, it sucks.
In terms of expenses, it is awesome! Really, it is a cheap place to live. But Ohio unemployment is at 11%, so it will be worse in Cleveland.

At least the cost of living is cheap here.

5. Most of the country has a less expensive cost of living than the northeast and the west coast
I live in Dayton, Ohio. I have a nice little apartment condo that I pay $430 a month for. My only debt is on the condo. My total bills, inculuding gas and groceries are $1100 a month.

10. I'm having a good time
We've got night clubs and a pretty good local music scene. I know you are an artist; we have the Dayton Art Institute that regularly hosts traveling exhibits. If you want to hang with the college crowd, we have the University of Dayton, Wright State University, and Sinclair which is a community college- the cost is $45 per credit hour for Montgomery County residents. Dayton is a nice sized metropolitan area- not a big city, but big enough to keep most of the residents entertained. Also, Cinicinnati is just 50 miles down the road.

The only bad thing about Dayton right now is that we've lost a lot of jobs over the past few years, so it's hard to find decent work right now. But if you've got the time, you can make arrangments before you move. I like it here and I am very well traveled.

12. The greater Indianapolis area is very cost-friendly
I know brigid posted about Terre Haute, and Indy is not that far away. Some companies are hiring even though the overall economy is a bit down. Indy seems to be weathering this recession better than other places. Time will tell, of course, but we are happy here!

13. I miss Indy.
I'm thinking of moving back. Funny thing about Terre Haute, though -- the potential is there if the town would just take advantage of it. We have a riverfront that never has been developed, several colleges, and a state university. We also have a hugely important hospital for the area. Terre Haute does not have to be stuck in the economic doldrums, but it is.

14. If my husband's promotion goes the way he wants it to
we may eventually be moving to the west side of Indy. We live on the northeast side right now. I have mixed feelings about the possiblity, but if it means a shorter commute for him, that would be great!

thanks to a slimebag downtown building owner who didn't want to actually have to improve the look of his properties.

Come up to Lowell sometime this weekend, Saturday or Sunday, the Lowell Folk Festival is in town and it's a blast! People come from all over, tons of art, music, food, etc. and it's all free! (well, except the food and parking) :silly:
