Are you a talker?
Do you talk a lot? Do you like to talk? My mother told me to shut up when I was thirteen. I didn't talk to her or my dad til I was fourteen. Dad was only home on the weekends. I doubt he even noticed.

I have a niece who used to talk non stop. I love her to pieces . She is my oldest half sisters daughter , so we are close in age.

5. Two adages while I was growing up,
children should be seen, not heard.

If you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything.

For some reason my wife just doesn't understand that not everyone likes to talk alot.

I don't make idle conversation very easily. That's the way I was raised.

Since I learned to talk I've been a master of the inappropriate question or observation. Therefore I keep my mouth shut.

Yes.
And for 25 years or so, you could say I talked for a living. A few years ago I retired way young, and now I find that I miss it all. I'm thinking about going back to it, just to have something to fill the days. And a captive audience.

17. No, I'm not
I can talk, often a lot, but when I do, it's because (I think) there's a reason for it or the conversation is "deep."

:-)

Consequently, I don't enjoy a lot of day to day idle chatter. It just makes my head hurt. And there are certain people I stay away from just because I'm not as in love with their voice as they are.

34. when I was a teenager
My mother would get mad at me and part of my punishment would be that my sisters and brother could not speak to me until told differently. This could be anywhere from a couple of hours to a couple of days. During one of those spells I decided not to speak to anyone in my family ever again. That lasted about a week.

But I definitely am not a big talker.

Sorry that happened to you, Tuesday. With me it was like, shut up, don't bother me. Kids were supposed to be seen and not heard.

39. I enjoy a good conversation.
When I am in town, there is a group of us that meet for lunch every day, and breakfast on Saturday.

Depending on the time of year, weather, how busy work is, it can be just two or three of us on any given day, like today, or twenty or so. All ages, many different political stripes.

We have lively discussions about damn near anything.

The health care issue is pretty big among us right now, as many of these people are self-employed or small business owners, and the issue of paying for health care is killing some of these guys.

I guess I get the love of talk from my Irish ancestors, and my father who, even when we were little, led the discussion around the family dinner table.

47. Oh, honey -
What a fucking rotten thing for your mother to have done. I am so sorry. I know how hard that is, how badly it hurts, even now. If parents only understood what power they had over their kids.

We did better with our children, didn't we?

But I know you write really well, and I love what you write, how you think, so feel free to fill my head with your words.

Your mother was wrong, and she did a very bad thing. But you're something else entirely. And I'm thankful for that................

48. Not really.
I wasn't encouraged to converse with adults when I was a child, either. Maybe that has something to do with it.... or not. My dad and I never had a "conversation", even when I grew up.

I have a hard time with "small talk". It just bores me. One of the reasons I married my husband was that when we were dating, he did all the talking. LOL

Otherwise, I'm almost silent.

Partially, that's because I'm a quiet person by nature, and partially it's because I lived with my mother for most of my childhood and on up until late high school. Mom never shuts up for more than 5 minutes, and that's given me a horror of endless pointless yammerings.
