Who on DU has tried absinthe? |
|
It's legal now in the US, although I think most of the world's producers have cleaned it up so it no longer produces hallucinations.
What are the best brands of absinthe? What does it generally taste like?

2. If it doesn't produce hallucinations, then what's the point? |
|
I tried it a couple of times.

3. Kinda what I figured, too. |
|
Don't the Czechs still make some of the "real" stuff, though?

8. The stuff I ordered was from the Czech Republic. |
|
I think. I still have the spoon they sent.
I wasn't drinking alcohol at the time, so maybe I was a little afraid of the whole experience, drank it too slowly.

I was already fucked up at the time I tried absinthe but man two shots of that pushed me over the edge. I dont know what it is you're exactly supposed to feel on absinthe but I think I did that night. :yoiks:

I love the taste of black licorice and had been wanting to try it forever. Went out w/ a friend, the bartender didn't seem that experienced making it, but she did the little ritual anyway. We used Pernod. It was OK, but I'd like to try it again sometime w/ a more experienced bartender.

9. "Legal" absinthe in the US is kinda like near-beer |
|
I have some "real" absinthe, but have yet to try it. I'll probably just keep it for grins.
The weird thing about old-school absinthe (not Absente or Pernod) is that it's illegal to buy, sell, or distribute it in America - but it's not illegal to own it or drink it.

11. I tried it, but it wasn't the good stuff - just a run-of-the-mill liqueur. |
|
My brother had some of the real stuff in Hong Kong when he was in the Navy in the 60s, and he had no memory of what happened, but he ended up in the brig.

but the spectacle was fun...
