Rocky Horror enthusiasts...can you enlighten me regarding this particular matter?
In some productions and cast recordings, "Time Warp" takes place before "Sweet Transvestite," while in others they are reversed. Why is this?

1. Somebody mixed up the pages in the script
I know in the original soundtrack Time Warp comes first.

2. "Time Warp" is before "Sweet Transvestite" in the chronology of the story.
If it's reversed, whoever compiled the cast recordings didn't know what the hell they were doing.

BTW, me in my "Rocky Horror" days as Eddie:

4. Actually, it IS the other way around in the original production.
According to the 1970s era script, "Sweet Transvestite" was first.

6. They were swapped for the film adaptation
In numeric order this song originally came fourth, but was switched with the following number, "Time Warp", for the latter to come before Tim Curry's entrance.

3. Here's another question...why the hell doesn't the score have any of the backing vocals in it?
I'm going to the the musical director for a production of it starting in September, and the music has none of the backing vocals. I have to pick and choose and transcribe from the 27 bazillion (approx.) different recordings of it. I'm working from the revival version first (since that seems to be what the score is closest to), then the Roxy version.

9. So you can work with the voices you have
I'm doing a production right now and am having to tailor the harmonies to lower voices than last time I did it.
