Health Care Reform should include service reform... |
|
Edited on Mon Jul-20-09 09:41 PM by FLyellowdog
My son is recovering from brain surgery. He spent three weeks in ICU and has been in rehab center for 2 weeks. Today he experienced severe head pain and swelling at the incision so doctors had him moved from rehab back to main hospital for possible more surgery. The move took place at 3:00 pm cst. It is now 9:40 pm cst and he is STILL laying in the emergency room waiting for the next available room!!! He has a stomach feeding tube and a catheter, cannot swallow, requires suctioning for mucus/saliva every so often, walks with a walker or requires a wheelchair, his face/mouth/tongue are paralyzed and he is on pain meds every 4 - 6 hours. Why did they move him out of his rehab room before they had a place for him at the main hospital? Idiots, all of them!!!! edited to correct the times.

It would be good to see hospitals put resources into improving service delivery, instead of constantly striving just to streamline the Service-to-Invoice process. If insurance companies were not sucking so much health care money away from actual care I bet we would see much better care.
I am very sorry that your son is going through all of this.
He has my best wishes, and so do you. I hope his recovery is full, and free of complications. :)
And may any bureaucrats who dare to get in the way rot in a locked supply closet somewhere instead.
