Does anyone else hate summer?
Hot, humid air. Bad emough.
Ants... if you leave one scrap of food anywhere, you get a trail of 700 ants.
Traffic... more tourism, more crazy drivers.
Spiders... walk out of the front door and into a new spiderweb every morning.
Nothing good on TV except inane reality shows and repeats of stuff that wasn't that great the first time.
Only movies in theaters are special-effects laden blockbusters with lousy storylines and worthless teen sex comedies.
That "useless" langour you get during the endless hot afternoons.
That "roasted skunk" smell that wafts in during the night.
Rattlesnakes.
Mosquitoes.
Visiting relatives.
Anyone else can't wait for the fall?

1. I've done my research,
and it looks like Winnipeg is my ideal city. Coldest place I could find that's still civilized - sort of.

It can't start snowing soon enough for me, although I'll settle for cool, leaves turning, the promise of cold while I have cool.

I hate a/c, I hate the long hours of sunlight, I hate the heat, the humidity, the fucking tourists who turn up everywhere, and the fact that "House" is in reruns.........................

Edited on Mon Jul-20-09 11:44 PM by eauclaireliberal
When I'm humid and sweaty I become a major league asshole. Ask my wife-I hate summer.

Cold and bitter wind. Love it. Once the snow is shoveled, settle in the living room with a good book and a cup of tea.

5. No way.
It's the only time of year when I'm actually comfortable and content. Can never be too hot or humid for me - I totally bask in it! Sadly it only lasts for 3 months, and the rest of the year I kinda creep around slowly because I'm too cold to move. I'm definitely living in the wrong climate.

7. Never liked summer. Maybe when I was a kid because school was out.
Give me some cold, cold air. I love wintertime. Though we have had a nice few days here in North Georgia. Since the weekend, the morning temperatures have been in the high 50s to middle 60s and afternoon temps in the middle 80s with very dry air. But that is all going to end within the next couple of days and we'll be back in the 90s.

8. If we ever have one.
I can do without the excessive heat and humidity, but I love

all the green growing things

windows open

the color

star gazing

not having to suit up like an astronaut to go outside

the taste of a freshly picked tomato

Fall is lovely, too, but much too short.

11. I loathe heat and humidity. This summer has been cool and wet though.
Not bad at all. We have hardly used the AC.
And everything outside is lush and green. No burned out lawn or wilting flowers.
I wouldn't mind summer at all if it stays like this.

And we planted a huge garden this year. So far, all I have is broccoli, cauliflower, radishes and leeks. My squash and cucumber plants died. I'm also in the northeast and anybody around here who won't admit that climate change is happening is just denying reality.

13. I love winter and fall for many reasons
For one allergies. Seems like the warm & humid makes it much harder to breathe.
But here are a few others:
1) I live near a college town. While summer school is getting more popular, life is fun during the school year.
2) All my life I preferred indoor sports to outdoor sports. Never cared for fishing & hunting. I am an old racketball and basketball player.
3) I like to wear sloppy sweatshirts and jogging pants and sit under a blanket with cats.
4) Quit watching baseball back when homers were like singles and still don't care for it. Prefer college football.
5) Nothing like a bowl of chili on a cold day.
6) Fall is so damned pretty for a short spell

16. During summer, I'm glad I'm a woman
Underwear + nice cool dress + comfy sandals = Dressed For Work

Sitting out on the deck outside the bedroom, which is up in the trees, with a good mystery and glass of Pinot Grigiot (heavy on the ice)

The Phils on the radio (we miss you, Harry)

Floating around my friend's pool on a Sunday afternoon, debating inanities like whether Matthew McConnehy is Hot or Not

Did I mention sandals/flip-flops?

Grilling steaks on our little gas grill, slicing some Jersey tomatoes and boiling up some fresh white Pennsylvania corn

A nice empty parking lot at work, while all the people with kids are on vacation (at the same time, crowding up the parks and tourist areas, but de-crowding the workday world)

Our cat thermometer showing the temp

My SO likes the winter, though....probably because he doesn't get to wear sundresses and sandals

23. Well, I don't like it much. Mainly because of the heat and humidity
of an SC summer. This summer, so far we've been lucky; it hasn't been too hot most of the time, and we've had low humidity much of the time. Last year we were lucky too with the low humidity.

"Traffic... more tourism, more crazy drivers."

WHere are you, in a coastal city?

"Nothing good on TV except inane reality shows and repeats of stuff that wasn't that great the first time."

Agree.

"Only movies in theaters are special-effects laden blockbusters with lousy storylines and worthless teen sex comedies."

IMO, that's about all that's at theaters any time of the year these days.

"Mosquitoes."

Agree.

And one thing that REALLY gets me about summer is how effing hot your car gets in parking lots, or just parked at home if you don't have a garage.

"Anyone else can't wait for the fall?"

I love fall, but it seems to not last very long here.

If you think summer is bad now, be glad you didn't live in the pre-AC age, like us geezers and geezerettes. :-)

less traffic here because a lot of the college kids are gone and my neighborhood is quieter for the same reason.

it hasn't been too bad this summer as far as the weather goes. the heat held off until a couple of weeks ago and we've gotten plenty of rain. however, because of the rain, it's been a bad year for mosquitoes and moths.

100+ degree temperatures

Sweltering Humidity

Air Quality roughly equivalent to that of Ypres during a German gas attack

Dust, dirt grime, dead brush on all the hills

And the furtive search on the horizon for the inevitable plumes from the next wildfire.

The IE is nice in the fall, beautiful in the winter, but miserable in the summer.

45. My sister lives in Riverside
and my niece and her 3 children. I feel sorry for them, living in San Diego while they live in Riverside. My sister has developed a cough and almost asthma since living there and she doesn't smoke. I feel really sorry for the kids growing up in such poor air quality. I don't think I could live in Riverside at all. It's at its best in the winter as you say, with the nice views of the snow-covered mountains, but even then I find Riverside dull. And it's pretty right-wing country, or at least it used to be.

51. The county is usually very RW.
Yet it went blue in 2008, so go figure. Riverside City is a bit of a mixture, it's a college town, with an artsy, eclectic downtown. There isn't so much to do here, UCR students gripe about that regularly. The city is renovating the Fox Theatre, which dates from the 20's and turning it into a performing arts center, so maybe things will improve in that department.

I'm sorry about your sister's lungs, my wife has some of the same problems, and I do not foresee staying here any longer than it takes to get my Ph.D.

Which part of town does your sister live in, I live up by the University.

in the "Jurupa Hills" area, just north of Limonite Ave. Not far from the Jensen-Alvarado Ranch, just in the hills north of that. I read somewhere that at one point Riverside was the largest city in California, population wise. I guess that was about 100 years ago or so. I can think of worse places to live (Bombay Beach, CA or Gila Bend, AZ) but Riverside would never be on my wish list of places to live.
