1. on a beach, under an umbrella with a beautiful ocean in front of me |
|
napping and reading a good book, taking frequent breaks to play in the ocean, digging my toes in the sand.

16. That is my perfect day, too. I love the beach. |
|
My dream is to retire to a beach house and walk on the beach every morning at dawn.

2. This will sound weird, |
|
but what I really enjoy doing early in the morning on a perfect summer day is washing bed linens and hanging them in the sun to dry, and throwing open all the doors and windows and giving the terracotta floors a quick moppin' with lemony-smelling soap. It doesn't take long to do these two little things, but they enable me to really, really, really enjoy the rest of the day. :)

7. After I do those two things, |
|
I would: work in my studio ("perfect" means no interruptions), maybe go across the lake with one of our goddaughters for an afternoon of people watching, go for a hike down up mountain, have an ice tea with a slice of lemon and no sugar, write in my journal or work in my sketchbook, polish my toenails, and (maybe) let CMW have a night off from grilling. :D
Thank you for asking. What would you do on a perfect summer day?

9. A perfect summer day I had a couple of years ago |
|
I went down to Philadelphia. Went to the zoo in the morning into the early afternoon with a good friend of mine. Then we went to the place Ben Franklin's house used to be (and visited the museum). Then we went down to the South Street District (that is like the Village in NYC) and did some shopping and ate a nice restraint there. Finally a little more strolling and then headed back home.

8. I'm thinking a fine merlot and definitely some gorgonzola on tart apple slices. |
|
Gorgonzola is also awesome stuffed into strawberries - as is extra sharp cheddar.

10. Sleep in, have eggs and sausage for breakfast (with mimosas), then go back to bed. |
|
Later on, get up and take a shower, have lunch, then spend a couple of hours poolside with some nice cold drinks.
For dinner, maybe cook salmon or steaks on the grill, then sit on the porch, drink some beer, and wait for it to get dark. After dark, count fireflies and perhaps play a candlelit game of Uno, then back to bed!
Hmmm...apparently my ideal day consists of food, booze, and sleep. :D

I went fishing two months ago and caught more bass than I've ever caught before, didn't keep a single one. They were all still small, about 10 inches long, and certianly didn't weigh much, but it was WAY fun!

and maybe drink coffee and later have some cognac and smoke my pipe.
However, if I'm forced to buy in the oppressive meme of the perfect summer day being a sunny day with warm temperatures, a meme foisted upon us by a great hegemony of the unjust, then I will say that a perfect summer day could be one spent outside cutting up vegetables in preparation for canning or freezing, perhaps a bit of fishing, and a supper grilled outside and then at darkness, a walk to the shoreline to watch the sun set over the Pacific.

camping with my husband in the mountains where there was a nice cool river full of trout that we could broil in butter over a campfire.
My other choice would be to have an extra day or two at home with all my household chores done so I can do all the canning and preserving from our garden that I want to do. I love our home and garden and really love any day that I don't have to leave here for any reason at all.
