This is the Itinerary for the Memorial for today: your opinion on it will be most useful
As some of you know, a friend passed away on Saturday. Here is the news report http://www.newsday.com/news/local/suffolk/ny-lidrow2012984749jul19,0,5453400.story

Anyhow, as he is gay, his family has sort of excluded his chosen family from the real funeral.

So we are doing a community memorial to him.

Here is the itinerary since its informal, it is amenable to change

1. Introduction of current status regarding his body, funeral arrangements etc

2. Non-denominational prayer

3. Four of his best friends speak about him in any way they see fit (speech, poetry, prayer etc)

4. Open Mic Time

5. Poster/art making session (supplies provided)

6. Drinks/Appetizers etc

1. I'm so sorry about your friend
Its even more sad that his bio-family chose not to include those he held most dear. Hugs to you and all involved.

2. I'm very sorry for loss of your friend
The memorial sounds great. Shame his family doesn't want to celebrate the man that he was.
I like services like this that let those who cared for the person remember them and share their feelings.

8. My condolences to you and all of his loved ones
It is a shame that there is any exclusion at all, but we all know how it is with people... :-(

I think that it will be a very moving and fitting memorial for him.

9. I think that is wonderful
Especially the art making session. What a perfectly lovely, and loving idea.
I'm very sorry for your loss. My husband has something he always tells people during times like this; "There is no statute of limitations on the grieving process"

10. Wow. What a cool thing to do.
I hope some of his biological family members will be present.

They will finally get to fully know (and appreciate) how beautiful this young man was, through the eyes of his nearest and dearest friends.

I predict an epiphany.

Fuck!
22 years old.
So tragic.

22 is way to young to die. May he rest in peace.
