I just chased my dog all over the friggin' neighborhood!
She has never run out of the front door before - but just as I was opening the door to check my mailbox my neighbor's cat walked by.

My dog took off after the cat and I took off after my dog. Of course I was wearing slip on shoes so running was nearly impossible. My neighborhood is also quite hilly. She ran across the street (in front of a truck that I waved to slow down)- behind a house, through their backyard, into another backyard then into their front yard. A utility worker tried to grab her but she kept going -
across another street, through another backyard heading for yet another street.

I think she finally just tuckered out and stopped. I had to carry her fat butt (29 lbs) all the way back home. She and I are both out of shape and need to lose several pounds. It is hot, humid and I am beat! She is laying spread out on the floor recovering and I am sitting in my recliner with the ceiling fan on high. Whew!

I really wanted to punish her but I was so glad she did not get hurt. I was so afraid she was going to get hit by a car or that a dog would get her. She has a bleeding disorder and her blood does not clot. She has had one blood transfusion so she has used up her free pass. I am unemployed so paying for a type match for another blood transfusion would most likely be out of the question.

My new neighbors let their cat roam around. It has been using my flower beds for it's litter box and it still has it's balls. The cat is also so skinny I know it has to have worms. I hate irresponsible pet owners!

Okay - I am now done venting. I may need a nap.

1. I'm glad you and the pup are okay!

My dog ran out the front door once too. He was chasing the cat who lives across the street. Fortunately, the kitty slipped in the cat door in the garage, so I caught up to my dog easily.

I feel bad for the kitty your dog chased. Why get a pet if you are not going to properly care for it?

Enjoy your nap!

9. I appreciate the offer but she bruises quite easily (because of her clotting issue).
Can you kick my neighbor's asses for allowing their un-neutered cat to roam around?

3. Think how much fun your dog was having runny away from you. My twin brother
and I both ran away from our Jamaican nanny at bath time. We ran naked around the block. It was really fun from the point of view of a four year old.

I think your dog had a riot.

4. I always peek out first if my dog Sally is near the door
If she hasn't enticed one of her three humans into a game of fetch, her other favorite hobby is staring out at the front yard/sidewalk/street and barking at any animal that moves. People are usually not the subject of these outbursts, but dogs, on or off leashes, and cats, are serious trespassers in Sally's mind.
On a rare occasion the north wind kicks up, and one of our side gates hasn't been secured and blows open, and Sally meanders out without her collar. The last time it happened I rode my bicycle to one park, next to the library, where she has been known to follow high school kids and present them with a discarded plastic water bottle, or once, a fallen branch(!), to throw for her. I asked a woman who was sitting at a picnic table using the library wi-fi with her laptop, if she could jot down my number and call me if she saw a Border Collie mix dog.

Then I rode to the bigger park near our house and recruited three park maintenance guys to be on the lookout, and told them if they saw her they could keep her there by throwing a stick, or plastic water bottle, and I'd be right back. I didn't see her across the expanse of park lawns, so I turned around and rode back to the library. No Sally there, either, and I asked a mother with two children sitting at another table if they had seen a dog. On my way back, one of the park guys was driving his truck toward me, and waved me over. "We found your dog, she's at the park playing with my co-worker!" and there she was, panting like crazy but still putting the bottle at the man's feet so he could throw it over and over again.

It is so scary when they get out! I'm glad your dog's escape story ended well!

Here's an idea to repel the cat from using your flower beds for a litter box-
Homemade Cat Repellent
Citronella is great to use. It's safe as a repellent for all animals. My vet recommended I use a collar that sprays citronella instead of using a shock collar on my deaf border collie. I've also used it outside to keep cats off my porch, and to keep the cats inside off the kitchen counters, dining table, and pool table.

7. I have never thought about blood transfusions for pets.
Where do they vets get the blood? Do they just draw it from animals at shelters or could pet owners bring in their pet to donate blood?

8. My vet got it from his own dog. I am not sure what others do though.
There are probably K9 blood banks for donors.

It is my understanding that a dog can get one blood transfusion from any type canine but if another is required then a type match has to be done. Dogs have many more types than humans so the matching becomes an expensive process.

I fretted a bit about it but he said it's a personality issue - like with humans, there are some of us who simply don't mind needles (I've donated 32 gallons of platelets / blood) - same with animals, the odd one here and there simply doesn't have angst over it
