Anybody here have dangerous feral dogs in their neighborhood? |
|
On "Monster Quest," they're showing neighborhoods where feral dogs have formed packs. They are disease-ridden and can be very aggressive. :scared:

1. it happens around here sometimes |
|
they kill or maim calves - we used to have three stubby tailed cows that got attacked as babies. I had a hunter shoot them.

We have three feral dogs in the back yard. They are all wearing tags saying that they live here, but I don't remember ever getting them.
I keep telling my mom to stop feeding them in the hopes that they will go away, but so far no luck.

6. Yeah, my last two dogs were rescues. If they hadn't been |
|
rescued, they would certainly be dead now. Well, one of them is dead  (got run over last year, about killed me, freak accident). But I will always have rescues from now on. Always.

Interesting, isn't it, that this seems to be happening in cities like Detroit and East Saint Louis, which have been hit very hard by economic depression and losing population, leading to lots of abandoned buildings and wooded areas where the dogs congregate. Just another side effect of the bad economy.

It is sad when that happens. They are just trying to survive, but they can cause some damage in the mean time. Like all animals. I hate to hear about strays. It always hurts my feelings.

In the eastern part of the village, over the river, there are quite a few feral dogs, people get bit and it's a big community issue.

9. Exactly why everyone should have their dogs spayed/neutered. |
|
I hate that those dogs meet that fate. I understand it, but I hate it because humans are to blame ultimately.

The one vet in the village, a saint of a man, has a week-long spayed/neutered clinic--for free. But the problem persists.

13. That is awesome he does that. Some people don't find it necessary though. |
|
I just don't get it. It isn't very expensive, and you can't afford a pet if you can't afford to have it spayed or neutered. Period. I know that doesn't solve the problem completely, but it puts a huge dent in it.

14. No dogs, but feral cats are EVERYWHERE since Hurricane Katrina |
|
Our little town is crawling with them, and the songbirds have almost disappeared. There are still plenty of blue jays and mockingbirds, but most of the smaller birds are gone. There is no animal control officer, and even if there were, probably nothing would be done about the cats. Some misguided people even feed them. On a brighter note, the squirrels are beginning to recover. I saw two today.
