1. Sing some random mystic-sounding lyric and make devil horns at the audience...
What else?

;)

3. Hey, I'm a fan...
But have you ever noticed that his stuff with Sabbath (and now Heaven and Hell) tends to make more sense, overall, than his solo stuff? I think it's because the rest of them are like, "huh? C'mon, Ronnie, this doesn't make any sense at all."

"Ride the tiger, you can see his stripes but you know he's clean, can't you see what I mean?"

Uh, no, I can't. What DO you mean?

4. How about

"Don't write in starlight 'cause the words may come out real"

I'm a fan too and this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjKNs1Qz5u8 is some of his best stuff.

8. Both are great songs. I'm even partial to the Rainbow stuff.
"Temple of the King" blows me away and there isn't any more haunting ballad than "Catch the Rainbow" IMHO. However, listening to the new H&H cd, I'm equally impressed with "Follow the Tears" and all the other new songs he's done done with them.

13. I'm going in August to see H&H. It will be my first time seeing Dio perform.
I'm not much of a concert-goer, but I have to go to this one.

"Last in Line" must have been incredible. I can't wait until August!

Dio does have a wonderful voice. It's incredible.

This clip of RJD & Geoff Tate of Queensryche blew me away. Dio is fierce.

16. Have fun at the show

We decided to go at the last minuet and got tickets at the door. It was pretty cool because we ended up 20' feet from the stage! Man, that was 25 years ago!

18. Thanks, I will!
You lucked out!

Wow, 25 years. Dio has quite a legacy. Hard to believe he's done this for so long.

5. The H&H stuff is more straight-forward, doesn't make you work too hard.
I really do like the lyrics from the band Dio, and find the concept album, Magica, fascinating. RJD uses a lot of metaphors and often has a back-story that is not obvious to the casual listener. His lyrics are actually very good. If anything he's too literary for the average listener of the metal genre, but it works because people assign their own meanings. I like his poetic approach to song-writing, but then I read a lot of Keats and Shelley, so I'm partial to layered meanings. I'm one of those folks who walk around the house reciting "Adonais" or "Endymion".

7. He's a Crowleyite, from what I understand... Member of the Golden Dawn...
Ceremonial Magician and all that. I actually know quite a bit about that sort of stuff, at least in passing, and understand SOME of his references, but some are... more than obscure.

9. Ah, that would be a NO.

So much has been assigned to Dio it's laughable. "Holy Diver" has been interpreted as Satan's descent into Hell, a trip on heroin and something sexual that I don't even want to get into. Very funny, when you think about it. The same people who think Dio is a Satanist are the ones who thought "Puff the Magic Dragon" was about weed. Sometimes a dragon is just a dragon.

12. That would be a no, what?
I suppose my source might be misinformed, but given how knowledgeable he is in general about such things, I would tend to doubt it. He's a pedantic bastard, but sharp as razor wire. If there's two things you can usually trust him on it's heavy metal and magick.

14. Not into any of that stuff, Crowley or mysticism.
He's "of the Bill Maher school of religion."

All the mystical stuff in RJD's songs is metaphorical. Not literal.

17. Why don't you just do something more logical?
Listen to and read interviews with the man before you attribute things to him that may not be true.

Dear Jonathan,

Love: "Oh, someone you love wants to just be friends"

PATRIOT ACT: "You are the innocent
Convicted of the crime
No one was ever there
To catch you when you fall"

Buffalo wings: "Fire
Burning through your brain
Turn to face the train"

Dio knows his shit.
