I thought "Safety Dance" was the coolest song in 1983 or 1984....
And, I had no idea the video was such a paradox. Here I was, picturing new-wave-punks looking more like Depeche Mode than Bilbo Baggins.

I love that song, particularly the longer version I hear on the radio from time to time.

I think I remember hearing Casey Kasem saying that it was supposed to be a song against slam dancing. I don't if Casey was making that up or not, since I've never heard that anywhere else.
