Poll question: Grown DUers, do you ever get mistaken for a child or teen on the phone?
I have a voice like Minnie Mouse, so yeah, it happens to me. x(

Sadly, I have made that mistake with other people on the phone. (You'd think I'd know better, but no.)

1. I get mistaken for a teenager in person...and I am 33!
Edited on Fri Jul-24-09 10:56 AM by Jennicut
I still get carded too, when I go out. And I went to the DMV with my Dad as I was taking over his car that he was giving to me and the person there thought I was 17 or 18. Heh. I have spent most of my adulthood trying to look older. Its runs in my family. My mother once answered her door at 25 and was asked where her parents were. Oh well, I will look damn good at 60, that is for sure...or at least I hope.

5. Well, I certainly don't look like a kid. But maybe, just maybe, my voice will get deeper. Or perhaps
it will just skip to that elderly quaver?

7. I think the two most important things for preserving one's voice are:
Not smoking & not straining it too much.

10. D'oh! LOL I was just replying to someone who was talking about "in person" and forgot
that you were answering my original question.

So, do you have a Kathleen Turner huskiness or what? :D

15. No, but even into my 20's I'd sometimes be mistaken for a woman...
Not anymore though- my voice has changed more in my 30's than it did at puberty. I can almost sing in Johnny Cash registers, though my actual speaking voice isn't quite that deep.

I use my manly-man voice on the phone.

Very authoritative. Almost announcer-like.

22. Yes. It's amusing.
People younger than I am are always calling me "honey" or "dear" because they think I'm a teen.

I'm over 50 so this is really funny. Admittedly, sometimes I play to it if I'm avoiding a call or if I want to garner sympathy when dealing with an irate customer. :7
