I have no sense of proportion when it comes to Indian food.
Edited on Fri Jul-24-09 03:48 PM by arbusto_baboso
I just got back a little while ago from my lunch break, and I'm miserably full.

A friend and I went to Maharaja, one of two local Indian places, for the lunch buffet ($7.95, all you can eat). We chose Maharaja, because the other restaurant (Taj) is better, and I figured I wouldn't eat much at Maharaja's buffet, since their quality has declined somewhat recently.

Well, apparently they got a new chef or something, because all the lunch items were scrumdiddlyicious!

When faced with good Indian food, I'm just compelled to eats 'til I cain't eats no more!

1. Oh, Indian food. MMMMMMMMMM
I haven't eaten Indian in months. You just gave me the most hardcore craving in the world.

Too bad the nearest Indian place is over an hour away

2. A huge +1 on this!
I love, love, love Indian buffets. I lose all sense of self-control when surrounded by mounds of delicious sauces, spices, rice, nan bread and chicken!

3. They had some great saag paneer and chicken tikka masala today.
I also wolfed down way too much gulab jamun for dessert.

8. chicken tikka masala is food straight from the gods.
Of course I have to have nan with it to get every drop of that wonderful sauce. I have leftovers from yesterday and am having it again tonight. I think I would eat it everyday if I could.

9. Agreed. They also have a "dal of the day" at this place...
A different dal (lentil) entree each buffet. Really tasty, but unfortunate for anyone who has to be around me later in the day....

4. i suffer from the delusion that all indian food is healthy.
we have some really great indian places in my neighborhood. i try to stay away from the buffets, but even when we get carryout, we buy way too much. and the sweets display is just irresistible. i think they lie and say your order is not ready so you will drool on the sweets until your will power is gone.
i think i have an extra 10 pounds made up entirely of indian food.

5. Yes, even their vegetarian stuff can pack on the calories.
But then, that's why I can actually *eat* Indian vegetarian food.....

6. Same here. I don't know how they can make any money
People eat a ton of food every time I go there, me included. Their costs must be close to zero because I always feel like I've eaten twice as much as I've paid for.

... and there are a number of good ones in my area too...

Now I want Indian food.

18. I agree.
The last time I ate Vindaloo (super spicy of course), my back side was pissed at me for two days every time I needed to go to the washroom. :D

19. I wish we had a good "Any-Kinda" Restaurant up here.
I love to eat out now and then, but usually don't bother here where you never know what you're gonna get but the odds are against you you'll even want to eat it.

An example the other day, a buddy and me were at a restaurant, and he ordered the 'captains plate,' thinking I'd want to help him nibble on it since I only ordered soup and salad as I wasn't that hungry. The waitress who I think is Vietnamese but whatever she is her English is limited, said to him, "you don't want that deep-fried, do you?" and he said no, and I was wondering what that meant but didn't say anything, 'cuz I actually hadn't known you can order a captains' plate non-deep fried.

What came to our table will totally astound you, as it did me, and of course I didn't care if HE didn't want to complain about his own order, but it was one of those long 'sgetti / lasgne dishes, and I don't mean a very big one, full of what looked like FISH CHOWDER.

It was swimming in a yellow buttery sauce, and contained a few shrimp, a couple pieces of salmon, halibut, some fresh garlic, and the rest was MARINATED ARTICHOKE HEARTS that obviously came out of a can, oh, and a few mushrooms that appeared to be canned too.

Yep!

The very very shocking thing was, it was like $22.00, such as a real captains' plate might have cost around here.

It would be soooo fine if someone would open a restaurant here and put their heart into doing nicely done food, any kind of food, just do it so you can EAT it fer cripe's sake, and do it consistently.

But every town has its good points and its bad points . . . . I don't even know if I've had authentic Indian food.

You'd think I'd just escaped from the Donner Party or something. :eyes:

Hadn't been in a few years, until I stayed at an Embassy Suites in Sacramento last month -- breakfast buffet! :scared:

Oh well, I only gained 3 or 4 pounds...

edit: timing

23. I used to work at an Indian restaurant. The owner would put the left over
bits of curry from the cooking pot into a bowl. At the end of the night we all got to sit down and eat that hodge podge of curries. Yummy.

are very dangerous, no matter what cuisine. Couple that with Indian food - gasp!

Unfortunately there are no good Indian restaurants in my community, so consider yourself blessed. ;)
