Mmmmmm. Taste that tangy wheat beer goodness. :9

Don't forget the slice of lemon...

1. Disputed. Fine as Widmer is, the Germans just do wheat beers better.
Nothing - and I mean NOTHING - beats a Weihenstephan hefeweizen.

2. The Widmer brothers are true to their German roots

Until I can actually sample the Weihenstephan, I will stand by my OP. :P :D (but I sure as hell would love to try it - and would freely change my opinion if so warranted)

At least agree with me that Widmer's hefe beats the hell out of Pyramid's. :toast:

3. Oh, absolutely it beats the Pyramids! No disagreement there.
And I like Widmer, don't get me wrong.

I tried my first Weihenstephan about a year ago. Now I'm pretty much spoiled for any other wheat beers. Sure, Paulaner is decent, Erdinger is pretty good, Franziskaner is okay, and Schneider Weisse is excellent. But I don't know what it is with Weihenstephan. Their regular hefe is just sublime, and their filtered kristal weizen actually has a mango-like hint in the palate. Their dark hefe is really nice, too, even on a hot day.

5. If it's available in the U.S.
I will scour my local micro/import establishments for it.

Appreciate the recommendation. :toast:

7. Bevmo is the first place to try.
It's available in the US, but it's not in huge distribution.

6. I don't know if Widmer is available in the eastern U.S.
They started back in 1984 in Portland. When I lived in Seattle, they were ONLY available on tap at select taverns where they had a contractual agreement with Widmer. They didn't brew it in bottles ANYWHERE. It was tap or nothing. And DAMN, it was GOOD.

But due to extreme popular demand, they caved and started bottling their beers in the late 90's. We can get them down here in CA, thank the beer goddess, lol.

I don't think I've had a dunkel!

14. Nice!!
I stopped drinking beer when I stopped eating wheat... wheat beers, especially, being out. And also my favorite.

Hefe dunkel is dark wheat beer, and yum is it good!!

16. No worries, dude!
I sometimes ponder having a day where I splurge and eat wheat and drink beer (and pay for it, later, but it might be worth it once...)

:hi: Hope life's treating you well!

I recall now why that is. Chalk it up to senility!

Life treats me well enough! :hi: FB gives you a better idea as to why than DU. ;-)

18. I'll take most any hefe anytime!
But you have to go to Germany and get one on draught for the best!

And, OH, the calories!
