I know many would say it's for the best, but we do watch local channels (no cable).
It's a 19" GE and it's 13 years old. It won't turn on using the power button or the remote? Is it a goner? Anything we can fix ourselves?
Thanks!

1. My dear LadyoftheRabbits! |
|
I actually have no idea if it's fixable, sorry...
But I suspect it is.
Hopefully someone with some technical expertise will show up to help!
I just wanted to say hi, and I hope your life is otherwise good...
:hi:

I'm of course of the opinion that it's for the best but just wanted to jump in and offer moral support.
Hug your momma real big for me.

5. Unless you know someone that knows what he's doing, |

it will cost you more than it is worth to repair. Shop charges go about $30 per hour, and many have a minimum charge and or a estimate fee. Save that money, and put it toward a new purchase.

7. Silly as this may seem, |
|
try plugging in the TV to a different socket in the house. Last year I had the same thing happen to my TV, a Magnavox which I bought in 1995 (meaning it was 13 years old at the time, too). I ran an extension cord to a socket on the other side of the room, and the TV lit up like Christmas. It was the socket, not the TV, that burned out.

8. There are a number of things that might be wrong. |

If you'd have to pay somebody to fix it, you'd probably be better off spending the money to get a newer used set from a thrift store.

I'll say it is quite easy at first.
I've had no TV since the "Digital Pay for Satellite or Lose Contact with the Outside World Conspiracy" started. heh
After a few weeks I reeeeally started missing the local news even though it news was never really local. They did mention the mountains occasionally.
Good luck :)
