What's your favorite Darwin Award winner story?

Ah, the Darwin Awards, the award given to the person who kills themselves off in the most spectacularly stupid ways imaginable.

My personal favorite is from the book Darwin Awards II, page 154, the Ski Lift bandits.

Long story short- 2 guys steal ski lift gondola pole foam padding, sledding down hill, and impact the very pole they stole the padding from!
Dumb. Dead. End of story.

1. We use Darwin Awards to teach our mentees the joy of reading

We have to choose the stories carefully as so many seem to involve sex but.....
My favorite was about the guy who was pretty badly mashed up in a car wreck. After a lengthy stay in the hospital, he and his buddy decided to celebrate his release.
He was wheelchair bound. His buddy had a pickup truck and they couldn't fit the wheel chair in the passenger compartment. So these two Einsteins decided that the injured fellow could ride in the back of the pick up in his wheel chair. To make sure the ride would be safe the chair and its passenger were secured with - yep - duct tape!
I don't think the ride killed him, but he did earn another trip to the hospital for a longer stay.

2. The guy who bought the wrong size bungie cord.

He was jumping from a bridge (say 200' for the sake of argument, I forget the details). Anyway, he bought a 150' bungie cord. That was the length of the cord BEFORE it expanded. He should have gotten one with an EXPANDED length of no more than 150'. Again, the numbers are for illustration purposes since I don't remember the specific lengths. As you can imagine, this did not turn out well.
