Friggin butchers at the ER on Thursday
Edited on Sun Jul-26-09 06:48 PM by Rising Phoenix
had to rush over their last night because of the injury I sustained while some nurse tried to take blood from my wrist, despite my arm veins being fine.

The fear when I talked to them on the phone last night was internal bleeding

It was a hematoma (sp)......A welt, with a finite amount of blood in it from the draw. They will either burst, or do what mine did and spread out beneath the skin and eventually be reabsorbed.

Anyway......some pics. Keep in mind this stick was done Thursday at noon, it is now Sunday at 8pm

1. it happens
I have small rolly veins and the phlebotomists have a helluva time starting an IV or drawing blood from me.

Are you taking care of it? You don't want a clot to break off.

4. No worries. Seriously.
If it hurts, the compresses might help. Otherwise, just ignore it and it'll fade, first to a duller purple, then yellow, then go away. Common hematoma and not unheard of with blood draws. It just happens sometimes.

Ignore it. No clots will form that could harm you. Just go on with your daily routine.
