a chaircover.

2. My dear applegrove!
What a beautiful picture...

Your parents are simply gorgeous!

Here's my husband and me on our wedding day, 44 years ago! To the left is his brother, and to the right is my Matron of Honor, and our Unitarian Minister!

We were just babies!

You were a radical!
I'm joking. How common were knee length wedding dresses in the mid-60s?

11. My dear Sanity Claws!
Yup, a knee length dress. I was going to wear it as a party dress or some such, afterward, lol!

I have no idea how common they were. I suspect not very. Most weddings back then were formal, la di da, don't you know!

kids nevertheless. Hey I'm a unitarian too.

12. Yeah, we were kids!
I was 21...

My hat wasn't actually a pillbox hat. It was more a band, covered with fabric from the left-over dress material, with little fake pearls stitched by yours truly along the top edge, and the veil underneath.

My dress was made by a very close friend of my mom's...

My Matron made her dress too...

We had so much fun!

We even wrote our own service...

You wore your glasses too!! How cool is that?? I'm incredibly nearsighted and I never see brides wearing glasses in their pictures. You probably can't navigate without yours either. Beautiful couple! I'm a secular humanist UU as well.

The clothes in the sixties were so sharp, so streamlined.

Thank you for your compliments!

Yeah, the clothes were more streamlined, and so was I!

Grandma was born in 1898 and they BOTH had Master's Degrees from Mississippi A&M!
Pretty unusual for that time. They were overachievers - County Extension Agents with Texas A&M.
Grandma died in 1985. I live in her house now.

95. once, when my daughter was 2-something
or maybe it was 3, but I would always say nice things about mommy to my daughter. Like Mommy is beautiful or smart or similar.

So, one day, when there were several people there, I asked her, "What kind of lady is mommy?" and I expected her to say, "pretty" or "beautiful" or "smart" or similar.

Her response was, "A dragon Lady!"

I still have no idea where she got it from, either, unless it was from a friend of the family when I wasn't around? Or, maybe a movie or something.

71. Interesting photo
Look at the middle aged men with their arms on the newly married couple. They seem to be the two fathers, keeping the two young ones in their place. I can't figure out who the mothers are. Interesting how in that culture, the mothers play such an unimportant role in the wedding.

81. The man in the white shirt is my Papoo
(great-grandfather) and the bride is his daughter, Katherine. Yaya is next to him in the dark dress. My grandfather (their only son) looks exactly like his mother and is 3rd from the right. Spooky huh??

This isn't a good pic but it's the only wedding-related one on photobucket at this time. I think I knew what was coming...(the caption for the photo is "monkeybait" wtf?)

edited for typo.

77. wedding and 50th Anniversry - my grandparents in Ohio

Wedding Day Portrait 1904:

50th Anniversary:

They were farmers.
My grandfather was a huge FDR man and a township trustee from mid 1920's to 1940 or so...
On election nights he helped count votes and never came home until noon the following day.
Grandmother never voted, even after suffrage...

88. Here is one from my 3rd marriage to Mrs NewJeffCT
Edited on Wed Aug-05-09 11:37 AM by NewJeffCT
We had a wedding in Nov of 2001, but since her parents were not able to make it to the US from China, we had a wedding ceremony in June of 2002. Then, we had another little wedding thingie in China in September of 2004 with the rest of my wife's family. And, no, I did NOT pick the jacket.
