I thought I had problems
I thought I actually had a girlfriend there for about a week only to get rejected. I had forgotten how much rejection can hurt. I had two months invested with her and she just kind of blew me off. It's alright, though, there are other women out there and I'm doing pretty good on my own anyway.

I got totally disrespected by my weight loss instructor last week because I put on 6/10 of a pound. Basically got dressed down in front of the whole class. That after showing a weight loss every week for 28 straight weeks and losing a total of 90 pounds. It seemed to me that if you treat people like that you aren't going to sell many memberships. Thankfully, she was not the normal instructor, just a fill-in, and the owner of the joint is going to hear about it today at 9am sharp. The fill-in heard about it, too, but it's probably going to take more than a jab from me to get her to change her ways. I used to advertise them in my sig line here, but I removed my sig and they are not going back in there. I would talk with my wallet, but I've already paid for a lifetime membership.

So yeah, kind of a crappy week. Actually, all of that went down on Friday and I was bummed all weekend. Then I got to thinking about it. I shouldn't have let those things bother me that much. Things have been going really good for me otherwise and overall my quality of life is excellent right now. I've got a good job, a nice place, good health, a nice car, and plenty of leisure time. Maybe perfection in life is asking a bit much.

I'm still looking for a girlfriend, though. Any takers? :D

1. You got verbal abuse for gaining less than a pound?
Hell, even if you were gaining a lot o weight, there is no way anyone should be verbally doing anything hostile or belittling. You have every right to go to the owner. I would too.

If the owner has any sense, that fill-in instructor is going to be fired. One employee like that can kill a business by driving away customers.

Congratulations on your sustained weight loss. :)

4. Thanks ThomCat
I was thinking the same thing. Belittling someone never does anyone any good.

2. Doesn't sound like you're asking for perfection at all.
Edited on Mon Jul-27-09 04:21 AM by Heidi
Sounds like you're asking for civil treatment from an substitute instructor whose wages you've helped pay, and expressing natural disappointment at a relationship that didn't work out as you had hoped.

I'm sorry you've had a crappy weekend, Tobin. Will send good vibes that things turn around this week.

5. Yeah, I guess I was just trying to get at the idea that
not everthing is always going to work out the way you want it to. That instructor is going to have some explaining to do to the boss.

3. aw Tobin, I'm really sorry you had such a crappy
Friday and that it carried over to your weekend. Thom said it best re the fill in. I hope the week ahead is much better. You've done so well re the weight loss and should be so proud of yourself.

You're a good guy Tobin, there's a woman out there just waiting for you. :)

8. We're doing ok Tobin. Lots of changes here though
we're on opposite shifts and don't get to see each other very much. It's been quite an adjustment, but I'm happy to still have my job. More than 2/3 of my coworkers lost their jobs and the rest of us were moved to dayshift.

House renos are ongoing. We're trying to figure out a good time to get together with you soon! Another meet up at the same place would be nice, we think of you often.

Work still keeping you busy?

9. I'm doing alright despite my blue post
I have a better position at work now than when I visited with you guys. A little less pay, but I get back 3 hours a day. I only work 9 hours a day now which is pretty good by trucking standards if you are getting a decent pay check. ;)

I'd like to see you guys again, too. I still work 3rd shift, but I have the weekends free and I also have some vacation time saved up. I'll drop you guys a line. I'm interested in what G has to say about Obama so far. Do you guys still have the same e-mail address? Better PM it to me.

11. Impressive weight loss!
Sounds like the person you wrote about doesn't know how to highlight cumulative success. Pity, because there are not a lot of people who can say they've lost 90 lbs.

Congrats!

15. That's one reason for something like weight loss why I don't do groups well at all.
WW or Tops just aren't for me even if there were no people like that in there. Way to go on the losing.

16. I try to keep in mind the 2nd Agreement of Don Miguel Ruiz
From here:

2. Don't Take Anything Personally
Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won't be the victim of needless suffering.

This is an understanding you seem to have already aquired but it's helpful to remember this quote when people criticize you unjustly. Such occasions are a good test of our own self-awareness, our own ability to take an objective view against a wave of others' opinions, which can sometimes be excessively negative and sometimes, even, excessively positive.

18. It sounds like good advice, but would probably take some time to master
And I did suffer needlessly there for a few days. It's hard to let some things go sometimes.

17. damn, 6/10 of a pound could be normal weight flucation
that instructor seems to have some issues.

Sorry about your girlfriend issues. Just try and think about it as a process. You are simply weeding out the bad ones to get to the right one.
