What is the oldest piece of clothing you still wear and how old is it?
I am wearing a 1987 U2 Joshua Tree concert T-shirt today and I think it is the oldest clothing I own.

1. My dear seaglass!
I think the oldest pieces of clothing I still wear are some shirts I made back in the 80's...

A very simple shirt; the pattern was by Simplicity, and it was simple! I don't wear them often these days since I prefer wearing knit shirts...

But every now and then, I get them out and wear them!

:hi:

3. A 1943 Hawaiian silk shirt.
My dad got it when he was stationed there during WWII.

Honestly, it doesn't really fit me any more but my wife wore it to a party a few weeks ago.

22. I have one of those, too, from my late Father-in-Law. I keep it
in a dry cleaning bag in my closet and wear it once a year on his birthday. I'm careful not to spill anything on it.

Didn't get a t-shirt, though. I'm jealous. ;)

9. Oldest in regular rotation is a 12 year old pair of Vasque Hiking boots
Simply, one of the most perfect items of clothing I've ever owned.

I don't do anything to maintain them but they still keep my feet dry and comfortable in all sorts of conditions.

Absolute oldest that I rarely wear is a grandfather's suede jacket. I have no idea how old it is, probably about 70 years old.

13. A T-shirt from the Blue Ridge Assembly I bought in 1987
It's khaki green with blue logo and lettering on it. It's got some holes in it and I'd like to replace it but I don't want to drive to NC to do so.

15. I still wear a lot of clothes I got in the '80s, but my oldest is
a beautiful wool coat that my mother saved up her money and bought for herself for $100 in the forties. It is in a gorgeous forties style. Unfortunately, it has gotten pretty worn and I don't know if it's wearable any more. But I also have another old wool coat of hers, maybe from the sixties, I don't know, which I wore to my high school reunion last year.

16. Have a great pair of Mexican handmade cowboy boots that are about 16
years old - had them repaired last year, and they are like new except much more comfortable. But the oldest is a motorcycle racing jacket made of horse hide by Schott Brothers NYC in 1971. Wear it every fall and spring.
Just starting to look GOOD.

17. I have a 1989 Paris Airshow T-shirt,
some Sperry Topsiders that are so old I don't remember when I got them, but it was probably in the late '70s; and a pair of pantyhose I bought in London in 1970. Although they are in good condition I don't wear them, partly because I rarely wear pantyhose at all any more, but mainly because of their bizarre design -- the legs stick out sideways from the panty at right angles so the fabric bunches up in the crotch when you put them on. These were a product of the early days of pantyhose, and I haven't seen anything like them since. Here are a drawing and a photo:

25. Damn I miss Ames.
It was the best place ever for buying kids clothes. They were the anti-WalMart of clothing - a LOT of US Union Made clothing, and it wasn't expensive! It was usually on sale, even if it wasn't marked as so. The register experience always seemed to hold a nice surprise.

30. I worked for an art studio that did a lot of the B/W art for Ames...
the art director was a real "assman" and
I HATED to do the jean's ads with him, because
he kept making me redo them because the
"ass is not quite right".

:puke:

One time (after 10 0r 12 revisions) I had
to remind him that the ad was for GIRLS JEANS
sizes 2 to 6X...

He had been married 4 times....
there is a big turnover with these
guys....LOL..."turnover"...

26. My mom's leather coat from the late 60's.
Honestly, it barely fits me...she was so much smaller then me (barely 5 feet tall) and the arms come up too short on me. But Its the coolest thing ever. I love clothes from that time period.

27. 30 year old pair of Asolo hiking boots that I wear cutting the grass
the tread is mostly worn off, and several of the eyelets have rusted out, but they're still serviceable. By contrast, a pair I bout about eight years ago have already torn up.

29. A 1980 T-shirt from NBC memorializing the 1980 Olympics.
NBC had the contract to televise them. They made up these t-shirts to hype it. I had a friend at the time who sold commercial time for NBC, and she gave me one of those t-shirts. Subsequently President Carter decided that the US was going to boycott the the Moscow games in protest of the Soviet Union's incursion into Afghanistan. So I guess the t-shirt would be kind of collector's item. But I still use it as a t-shirt.
