15. OK, that one got me to laugh out loud...
...I remember in the early days of David Letterman's show, Sanborn sat in with the band once a week (Fridays I believe)...and every time Dave would say "And sitting in with the band tonight, David Sanborn" I'd think to myself "So effin' WHAT?"

21. On The Tonight Show (mid-90s), Bob Dole was the guest and, as he ambled out, Branford's band played
a special song for him - "So What?" by Miles. Maybe only a few of us jazz geeks got the joke, but I was rolling on the floor!

That or "air pudding". A sweet spoonful for your ears, that leaves you feeling sticky and not a little bit taken.

25. A buddy of mine and I came up with "K-Jazz" back in HS (20+yrs ago)...
while using our best DJ voices. Well, turns out that name was already taken by a legendary, now-defunct Bay Area jazz station (and now by many other stations across the country). Their archives have some really good stuff and are being streamed on the net via Winamp/Shoutcast.

27. Jazz? it's not the station as much the person and Al "Jazzbeaux" Collins in the Purple Grotto was it
Al's colorful career--his studio was always the "Purple Grotto"--spanned 56 years, 11 U.S. presidencies and both coasts, and included stints at Bay Area radio stations KGO, KSFO, KMPX, KTIM, KZST, and KAPX.

He lived in my hometown for years and we always enjoyed him tooling around in his purple Porsche and purple jumpsuit. He later flocked the Porsche black and added a spigot on the front. Later years he favored a Japanese truck with altered letters, King Crab on the side.

"Treasure of the Sierra Madre" came out in 1948. The "stinking badges" line is great, but would Mel Brooks really remember it some 25 years later when he wrote "Blazing Saddles??

No, the "Stinking Badges" line was kept alive, or really popularized, by jazz DJ Al "Jazzbo" Collins. Back in my day, I was a Bandido in good standing.
