Damn, man, how do bulimics DO it. (Warning-TMI alert) |

Ugh. Apologizing in advance for the slightly gross nature of this post.
So I was eating dinner tonight. I'd gotten a salad, and decided to put chicken from Sunday's dinner on it. Sitting in the somewhat dim light by my work station breaking up the piece with my fingers, I thought the chicken didn't look as ... bright ... as it could. Slightly off color maybe. But I ate it and the salad anyway. But then I broke up the second piece and took it into brighter light. Pink. Definitely pink.
Yeah, kinda out of order, wasn't it.
So there I was soon after, doing what I've never done before - trying to make myself throw up. I thought if I could get dinner back out of me I'd have less of a chance of getting sick. Damn, I feel like I popped blood vessels in my eyes or something.
Meanwhile, it occurs to me that the chicken from Sunday was flavored, marinated chicken from the grocery store. Italian parmesan flavored to be exact. Sorta tomato-y colored.
So, good friends, what are my chances that the chicken wasn't pinkish because I'd undercooked it, but because the marinade had creeped into the chicken breast and stained it that color? What are the chances I just gagged myself for nothing? It was a fairly thick breast, mind you, but I cooked it longer than the rest of the pieces and THOUGHT I'd gotten it done. Still and all, that color bugged me.
And also, is there anyway to head salmonella off at the pass? Activated charcoal, maybe?

1. I will avoid vomiting until there is no other way. |
|
I'm not sure if vomiting the chicken would prevent salmonella. I hope you don't get it, I think I had it once and it's nasty.

3. I thought I would too (only do it if there was no other way) |

Never did anything like that before, but I was not in a good state yesterday. My brother/roommate is out of work, and I've spent the last two or three weeks trying to help him look for work. He's computer semi-literate, so he needs me for the internet searches and such.
Well, we added a new crisis yesterday when some bills he'd been trying to pay with certified letters appeared lost. I went down to the post office and spoke to someone I knew, and today all is good.
But yesterday it was all starting to get to me. When I realized what I'd done food-wise my only thought was that I can NOT afford to get sick.
I don't know if salmonella happens every time you eat pink chicken, or is only a possibility, but I was willing to try anything, including throwing up.
I hate throwing up. I'm actually surprised I managed it. It felt like my eyes wanted to pop out.
I've also been drinking lots of water. Here's hoping.
I'm probably just being overly paranoid. I think you can make yourself sick if you dwell on these things too much. So I'm trying to calm down.

5. Practice and repetition |
|
As for the chicken, you're probably fine and it could very well have been the marinade. But it did give you an interesting intellectual exercise.
