Birds Fly (Whisper to a Scream)
Back in the mid 80's, a guy I knew played this album, by The Icicle Works, for me and I really loved this song. It was maybe several years later that I actually saw the lyrics and realized that I had many of them completely wrong and the song was not at all about what I thought it was... ehhh. I don't think, even knowing the lyrics, I've ever been able to figure out what the song is in fact about... it just makes no sense to me. Regardless, I still really love this song so... Tonight, I present to you, Birds Fly (Whisper to a Scream) by The Icicle Works.

Love comes, down upon us
Till you flow like water
Burning, with the hope of insight
Feathered, look they're covered
with a bright elation,
Stolen, in the sight of love
We are, we are,
we are but your children,
Finding our way around indecision,
We are, we are
we are ever helpless,
Take us forever,
A whisper to a scream
Birds fly, in the eye
of the faithless daughter,
Broken, at the bitter end
Wasted, sacrificed for a new Nirvana
Night time, sends us on our way
A whisper to a scream

1. My dear Ohio Joe!
Ah, that's a great song!

The lead singer looks familiar...was he in some other band?

I don't get the lyrics either, but who cares?

The music is great and compelling!

Thanks for posting ...

2. Hey Peggy!
I have no idea, I did not follow them much after this. They kind of changed their musical style after this album and went more 70's type standard rock... kind of like Neil Young but without the being good part :D The singer did do a solo career after that, through the 90's and I think he is still going but I forget his name :( So you may have seen him!

3. Ian McNabb -
he did make an album backed by Crazy Horse, so there's the Neil connection.

My fave Icicle Works song is "When It All Comes Down" from Seven Singles Deep:
