I think there are certain persons which you can respect the work they've done, but in terms of personal taste not really like.

For me, it would be George Carlin. I know that there are a lot of George Carlin fans on this board, and I wholeheartedly agree that he rightfully deserves respect as one of the great stand-up comedians. He did usher in a more socially perceptive brand of stand up humor, moving beyond the world of simple shallow one liners.

But on the other hand, I honestly didn't like a lot of his jokes or some of the positions he took in his jokes. I'm not a huge fan of the angry, foul-mouthed comic--one can be funny without having to resort to excessive profanity or shock value. So I never really like George Carlin or his style of humor. But I do have an objective respect for him for being part of a new comedic movement.

I will say, however, that his "baseball versus football" monologue was sheer brilliance and hilarious as well.

1. Sean Penn.
Great humanitarian, solidly liberal, a staunch activist.

Don't think he can act a lick.

2. The Dixie Chicks
I can really praise them for the stand they took but... I really can't stand their music.

Although I do love "Not Ready to Make Nice." Not a fan of their other music.

3. Prince.

The man is a musical genius. Name an instrument, he plays it. He does almost all the vocals on all his albums, which gives him a vocal range that rivals Mariah Carey and her high-pitched caterwauling.

And yet, I can really only take the man's music in small doses.
