Why don't elderly people develop their own slang in retirement communities, nursing homes,

they have their own slang from their childhood. my nearly 80 year old parent uses phrases from the 40's, why wouldn't other older folks do that too?

9. My mom always used the slang from her childhood in Brooklyn

when she was talking to me--a child of the 70's and early 80's! She forever said, "If my grandmother had wheels, she'd be a trolley car" when she commented about hypothetical situations.
