C alling Help of All DU Doggie Lovers to Help Two Pups
Edited on Wed Jul-29-09 05:06 PM by EndersDame
Our neighbors moved the other day, and were surprised to find that the apartment that they were moving into would not allow two dogs, but only one. A friend of theirs had fallen on hard times recently and was moving in with them, along with the puppy in the photos (which he told me he wanted to ditch!) so we took it upon ourselves to try to find homes for the two that couldn't stay with them. I'm fairly sure that we can deliver both of these dogs to whomever wants them, kind of around Central Texas. Other arrangements may also be possible.

Ratchet is the larger dog. We aren't entirely sure what she is, since she was a roadside pickup by the neighbors. She seems to have Chow and Rottweiler in her, as well as some others, however she is a very sweet and friendly dog, and has never bitten anyone. She was picked up about ten months ago, but could be closer to a year. She has had most of her shots, except for rabies. Ratchet is housebroken and has basic training. She is very friendly, but a bit wary of strangers. When she is let out of the front yard she hangs around and will not venture out into the street. She is in the goldilocks zone of being just the right size. I like it that she is big enough to play with and not an accessory dog but small enough to keep in an apartment if taken on walks and outings. On the whole, she is a very well-behaved dog and would be great with children over 8 or 10. She never bites, but will play if enticed. She is not spayed.

The puppy (who we have been calling Kira -yes after Kira in DS9 to give you and insight into her firey but sweet nature
) has a very boisterous disposition, and will take any opportunity to play. I found the pup burrowing into a bunch of junk left on the porch when the neighbors moved the other day, left by their redneck ass of a roommate(we have taken them in our garage apartment as foster parents-hopefully landlady will not find out ). We have no idea what she is, really, but I'm fairly sure there is a lot of Red Heeler in her, along with some sort of terrier. She loves to chew (being around 10 weeks) but will respond to deffinitive admonitions when rebuked. However, she is a little hyperactive when she wakes up, and demands attention from whomever is around. She has a bit of trouble distinguishing what she can and cannot chew on, but is very content when given some sort of rawhide to play with. We discovered that she has a strange affinity for catnip, and will respond to it almost the same way a cat will. Given a bit of the stuff in a chewtoy, she'll be a bit rambunctious for around 15 to 20 minutes and then will give out and sleep for around two to three hours. Speaking of barking, she has already learned to do so when playing, and responds very well to some sort of glove over the hand as she nibbles away at your armored clad fingertips. She is very responsive when admonished, but will quickly rally to find new ways of making you go "Awwwwweeee aint she cute . . ."

Both of these lovable dogs will have to be either abandoned on the street or sent to a shelter (90 dollars each) unless they are adopted. We're more worried about her than Ratchet, but would love to see both taken into a nice home. Both of them need a family ASAP, since they will be going out the door at the end of the month. Please help them.

I am posting this from a coffee shop so please keep this post kicked often and high and please spread the word, since our neighbors took our net connection with them.

This is probably dumb but I am willing to put my number on the internet if it means these pups can get a nice home

1. Petfinder.com
See if a local rescue has room or if they'll at least host their images/story on their Petfinder pages. The more local exposure, the better.

"Abandoned on the street" is an unthinkable option. Please don't.

Thanks for helping them out.

2. The neighbors tried to take the doggies to the shelter but they had to pay 90 bucks
We dont have that (we both got fired and are needing to move as well) If it comes to it I will ask my mom for the money but would rather find them homes since they are good doggies

4. They are beautiful pups!
You are a good person for trying your best to find them a home. Please never leave them to the streets. I hope you find them a home. They sure deserve one.
