Anyone get annoyed when carry-out places have a tip line on the credit card slip.
I'm not generally against tips, and I almost ALWAYS leave 20% when I sit down. I'm also happy to drop money in a tip jar. That said, I find it really annoying when I go to a carry-out place and have to enter something in the tip line and total line before signing.

Am I being a jerk here?

1. They probably use a machine or system that automatically includes that line.
Don't worry about it. Add a tip, or not.

2. Just put zero on the tip line...but personally, I will tip on carry out.
Some do, some don't.

I figure that someone still has to prepare the food for carry out, etc.

4. The difference between the person who prepares the food for carry out,
and the waitress that serves your table is that the waitress is getting paid a hell of a lot less than the person preparing the take out. Waitresses aren't paid even minimum wage.

5. I understand...
I tend to over tip anyway....I tip for things that I probably should not. Waitresses...I usually tip 30 to 40% if things were good.

6. In many places, the waiters/waitresses prepare the takeout order
I usually don't tip 20% for carry out, but I put something on there.

7. Annoyed? No.
I ignore it, or, if I like the place, I'll throw in $1 or $2 no matter what the total.
