How long did it take to heal? Man this sucks. I was pursuing a loose ball in a basketball game and this guy who was probably 100 lbs heavier than me collided with me. Needless to say, I took the worse end of the hit! I hit the floor and my body landed on my right pinky and I got a displaced fracture. The ER doc sort of pushed the bone back into place. It hurts though. No more hoops for about 4 to 8 weeks depending on how it heals. I'm just hoping that I do make a full recovery. Right now the finger seems really messed up.

Surgery wasn't fun and the cast wasn't fun.

3. I once got a very tiny bone chip in my thumb from a softball game but |
|
that was different. It hurt less and didn't need a cast or anything. Oh well. I love sports and injuries are just part of the game. Considering the size of the guy I collided with, I could have had a much worse injury.

One finger twice. It is bumpy. My fractures were on the top joints, so if yours is more towards the hand, I imagine it would heal somewhat differently. My pinky seemed to heal the fastest, and isn't as bumpy as my bird and thirds that I broke. Maybe the break just wasn't as bad.
The pain should subside significantly in the first week or two, then shouldn't bother you too much after 3 weeks. At least, that was my experience.

7. Yes - it healed pretty quickly, but it took a long time (months+) before |
|
it settled back into the proper position. For a long time, there was a gap between the healed pinkie and the other fingers. It did fully heal, however...

9. Not a break, but I once viciously stubbed my middle finger playing basketball |
|
The ball made that "donk" sound well known to anyone who's had a similar misfortune.
Didn't break the finger or even sprain it, but I could sometimes feel the ache a full year after the incident.
Ouch!

10. Only punch I have ever thrown, and broke my finger. |
|
I was playing third base, and some girl about a foot taller than me was not going to slide and decided just to take me out. I landed hard but before I even had a chance to get up my older sister was all over the girl. The third base coach jumped on my sister and I punched her. The game wasn't even close, and I had never been in a fight before or after. Not sure what got into us all.
Well except that time in sixth grade when I hit Shane Brooks with my clarinet case because he grabbed my boob.

11. Damn! Argh! Just saw the orthopedist. I gotta have surgery to have a plate put in... |
|
Best case scenario is that I do make a full recovery and I can ball again in 3 months. I'm worried about the possibility of not making a full recovery. I've heard of people having bad outcomes when pins or plates are put in the hand. Technically I'm having an open reduction/internal fixation on the proximal phalanx of the R pinky. Anyone know anything about this surgery? I'm gonna do some reading this weekend.

12. Had almost that exact surgery when I was 16 |
|
Went down on my skateboard and broke the metacarpal in my right pinky and the proximal phalanx in the finger next to it. They wired the metacarpal and put a plate on the phalanx. It hurt like hell after the surgery and the area was vey sensitive around the plate. Just about the point I started getting used to it, we had the second surgery to pull them back out. More pain and swelling, but nothing compared to the surgery that put them in.
A few weeks after the plates were out, I was using my hand like nothing had ever happened. 20 years later the only evidence of the break is a couple of small faded scars on my hand. No long term problems whatsoever.

seems like it took forever to heal. It was broken for a couple of weeks before I went into the ER and had it looked at. No cast, just a splint for a couple of days and buddy taped.

auto accident. Splint...buddy taped. Hurt like hell for two weeks. Gotta tell ya in 5 -6 weeks, I was OK. (I was a nurse, so I needed my hands) You'll be fine. Today, I don't even know I had broken it. Full range motion in about 5 -6 weeks.

I heal fast so four weeks minimum, but I'd give it six to eight for true strength and be easy on it even then.

The left one in seventh grade PE class, and don't really remember how long it took to heal. The right one about two weeks after high school graduation; fell out of a tree, and that's all the detail you'll get about that. I know it was back to functional by the time I started college in the fall. Both are a full ring-size bigger than they used to be, and I have to concentrate on not doing the 'pinky thing' with either mugs or stemware. Weird.
Hope you heal up okay!

I broke almost every finger and toe climbing in the trees and scaling cliffs. I used to just wrap a broken finger up with some tape and an emery board and went on about my play time. I never even bothered telling my parents anymore. It was just part of life and I took care of it.

25. Not broke exactly but fractured/sprained during a most inopportune time |
|
I was traveling through the US and was about to leave my cousin's house in San Diego when I had a fall and hurt my finger. It was really painful and I was in considerable discomfort but I was due on a flight that night so I had to go to the airport and carry my luggage and handle all the flight procedures despite the throbbing pain. The pain lasted throughout my flight (which IIRC) included a stopover and was still as bad as ever when I arrived in my next destination. Thankfully I had a friend there who insisted on taking me to the hospital to have it checked out. The doctor gave me some medication and some advice on what to do. I was well-looked after the next few days by my friend but my finger still caused me some discomfort and pain and made it difficult for me to do things. Thankfully it was more or less fine at the next stage of my journey

I was sliding into home at a softball game...all 150 pounds of me...and the 300 pound catcher decides to block me and we lock cleats...something has to give and it wasn't fatass...it was my ankle.
Most painful thing I have ever felt
